A hotel with very special character. From the warm welcome on arrival to the superb decor of our room and on to the well maintained grounds, this hotel exceeds in all areas. We were there for 4 days and would very happily go back. The restaurant is excellent although we only had breakfast there it was a good menu with all the basics provided. Unfortunately the weather was not great so could not enjoy the outside cocktail area which clearly would be outstanding with the right conditions. We stayed in a suite with a view overlooking Cork and it really was very comfortable and extremely spacious. The staff were all very helpful and a pleasure to interact with.

Make no mistake, this is in effect a 5 star standard hotel, despite its official 4 star rating. The difference between a 4 and a 5 star hotel can be down to technicalities that don't effect the majority of visitors, but the Montenotte is operating at a level way above many 5 star hotels. The staff were brilliant, very natural but helpful and immaculately turned out. Our executive room was very well appointed and the quality of its decor was excellent. We only stayed one night (dinner B&B) but will return as soon as we can. We tried the lovely cinema (free popcorn!) and the external Glasshouse cocktail bar was a delight, with funky decor. All of the food felt like it was prepared with love, in particular the breakfast items. For example, the scones we had were melt in the mouth beautiful. Were there any negatives? Nothing much that effected our stay. The pool area is large but the decor is older than the rest of the hotel. Given that the public areas and rooms have been refreshed I've no doubt that the pool area will in time get a similar facelift. In truth it is difficult to pick out any real negatives about the property. This hotel is not the standard identikit Irish chain hotel, and it conveys a sense of attention to detail. We left feeling like we were really well looked after, and can't wait to return.

A typical hotel room, very clean and simple decor. We had a room facing the city (third floor) and it was quite a lovely view. Other rooms face the street/parking lot so something to consider when booking. The hotel itself is high up on a hill in a relatively affluent neighborhood. It is not within walking distance to the city center, so you will need a car (or taxi) to get anywhere. Regardless, it's a nice respite from the hustle and bustle below. The breakfast was outstanding - full, hot buffet breakfast -or one cooked to order along with typical cold offerings (meats, fruits, cereal, etc.). The staff were also super helpful and friendly.
