I’m giving this hotel five stars because ultimately it is that, especially for the price. However, if you are considering booking a room you need to keep a few things in mind. The only rooms I recommend are the newly renovated rooms, which I believe are located on just one floor of the hotel. These are the executive rooms that come with a great club experience. When I originally checked into my room, I was booked into the garden wing, a one bedroom suite. Thinking this would be a great getaway, I was sadly disappointed. The room was definitely in need of an upgrade and updating. In fact, it was quite bad by all standards. There were tiny insects in the room and the windows didn’t close fully. The A/C struggled and the hallways felt like a sauna. Everything about the room, and the garden wing for that matter, felt rundown, especially the kitchen which I believe is original, likely 50 years old. I do not recommend staying in an older room unless you get a dynamite deal and don’t mind some of the inconveniences I just mentioned. I certainly would not consider those rooms five star rooms, based on my experience. The new rooms are, however. I could not stay in the room and paid for an upgrade, which was well worth it. Overall, I would say the hotel is in need of immediate attention to keep its five star status. It is starting to feel like “a place of former glory”, but still has elements that are great (staff, food, service, etc). Hence my five star review. But significant work will be required over the next 10+ years to ensure it is a first class destination (upgrading rooms, repairing the façade of the exterior, etc.). I also recommend that they consider making at least one of the restaurants entirely smoke free. To most westerners, the smell of cigarette smoke while dining is off putting, IMHO.

Also public area toilet and lobby was clean , pak Dwi from housekeeping escort us to the garden,pool and butterfly dome we meet pak Rifky. He very helpfull explain about the buterfly. overall we very happy staying in HBJ. thank you

“The Only Place to Stay in Jakarta!!!”

What can I say, Superb, Fantastic, The Best & Go Nowhere Else whist visiting Jakarta. Our experience of the Hotel Borobudur started at the Airport. Airport: Where we were very speedily processed through the airport by Tio, this guy is a total "Win Win" for the hotel at the airport. Tio took us through the airport, and sorted out our Customs documentation, then escorted us to the Hotel Car. Hotel Car: Which was parked out side, and safely and professionally driven by Ferry. Traffic was manic, but Ferry soon had us at the hotel where we where met by a great Team of enthusiastic Hotel Staff. Hotel Staff: As stated, young, enthusiastic and their number one aim is to ensure we felt like we were at home, and well catered for. Hotel Amenities: Where do I start, the rooms superb; the hotel sits on an extremely large site in the middle of Town. I'm reliably informed, the largest grounds of any hotel in Jakarta. Beautiful Grounds and Gardens, the smell of Jasmine is hypnotic! the biggest swimming pool in Jakarta, great pool temperature too. Pool staff, particularly attentive to all your needs. We ate at the pool, and the Chinese, Japanese and the ground floor Cafe too......all of these venues were superb, both in quality of ingredients, food and service. Hotel: Not the newest hotel in Jakarta, and could, perhaps, benefit from a new coat of paint on the exterior. Fear not! the inside is great, we were here as the hotel was pre-pairing for Christmas, outstanding Christmas decorations and attractions for one and all to come and see. As previously mentioned, the staff, from the General Manager (big shout out in helping us with cancelled flights, amongst other problems we had) right down to the Ground Staff were all equally attentive in making our visit the BEST! Spa: We visited the Spa, had a few treatments, but worthy of note, the Swedish Massage my wife and I had were out of this world. the whole experience in the Spa, start to finish, was unforgettable. Have to mention, also, the Gym, is so well equipped, my own Gym back home, is not as good, or as clean and well managed. We were staying for three days before flying off to Bali, but we are coming back for 24hrs, prior to our flight back to Europe. Big Hotel, FANTASTIC and CARING Staff, Superb FOOD and an equally BIG THANKYOU ALL to everyone who made our stay at the Hotel Borobudur exhilarating. The place to stay in Jakarta. A+++++
