Having read the reviews for this hotel, we knew that upgrading the room was going to be a good plan - so we arranged that before arrival ( from budget room to superior ) . On arrival we were pleased to find that our room was available for early check in with no additional charge which was a welcome surprise , everyone at reception very friendly & helpful. The room was perfectly adequate for us two , with kettle , fridge etc. we were on gone 4th floor and had a view to the shoreline across the road which was a pleasant surprise . Beds were comfortable & room cosy , we had plenty of space to unpack & store cases etc. As reviews have mentioned , it does seem a poplaye hotel for school trips - but we didn’t have an issues with that ( other than it being super busy at breakfast if you go down around 8am as the school excursions seemed to leave at 9am. Breakfast is as we expected , continental buffet style - again we expected that so made the most of it - yoghurt , fruit , cereals , sausages ( kind of hot dogs like ikea but I liked them ) pancakes . We enjoyed what we had and being set up for the day. The bar is a little disappointing , and that’s just because it’s part of reception and so if it’s busy then it’s big relaxing ( and Iceland prices for beer , you want to enjoy it ) - it would be nice if there was a space away from reception to enjoy a drink after a long day out . Staff were friendly though so I’m not taking that fact away . Our room had shower and bathtub , but I would advise caution if any mobility issues , the shower screen is fixed so climbing in & out is a little awkward ( I have a tendon issue in my arm and it was a little tricky - but there are plenty of hand rails so that helped ) . The rooms are very clean , housekeeping is on request - but you can ask each day if you wish . The walk into town took approx 35 mins but we were at a leisurely pace looking at things as we went along . We had a great stay & overall based on the price and experience we would go back . We hadnt made the original booking so went with an open mind.

I stayed one night accidentally, when Icelandair put a group of us up after missing our connecting flights. I liked the place so much I booked a room for the next week when I was PLANNING to be there! Lenny, both Marias, Sigi... very helpful and pleasant. The first room was bare bones, but had all the necessities - and was clean as a whistle. The kitchen crew not only provided us a meal that day, but served breakfast EARLY to accommodate our transportation to Keflavik for morning flights the next day. The room I booked the next week was larger and it, too, had everything I needed. My ONLY recommendation is that the beautiful showers could use a grab bar on the wall somewhere. Location was great - close to the harbor (and the wonderful walking path there).
