When you travel to a country you've never been before, you don't always know what to expect. Prior to arrival, communication with Downtown Reykjavik Apartments was really good. Payment was made automatically 7 days prior to our arrival, and we were then given codes to open the front door, to access the luggage storage area, and then to access the room key when check-in time arrived. I'm used to having a clerk check us in, but this system worked very well. There was a phone in the lobby with clear instructions how to call for a cab, which was helpful as we arrived several hours before check-in. Once we were checked in, the room was very clean, and though we didn't use the kitchenette, I can see it could be real handy for some people. I'll admit the bathroom was a bit smaller than I'm used to, but again, it was clean and we were there for just one night. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet, even though it was right at street level. Upon check-out, I tried calling a cab to take us to the cruise ship dock, but I kept getting a message that there were no operators available. I saw the hotel manager just then and asked if he knew another cab company to call, and instead of giving us a number, he offered to load us and our luggage into his car, and for an agreed upon price, he drove us directly to the dock. Reza was very friendly and helpful, and gave us a little over view of the city as we drove to the dock. Yes, there are more modern accommodations available, and yes, there are hotels with restaurants and bars on the premises. And yes, you pay for that. The Downtown Reykjavik Apartments are clean, nicely located, and though there weren't any other amenities on the premises, the low daily rate reflects that. It was perfect for our pre-cruise stay, and I would stay there again.

“Comfy apartment outside busy city area”

Basic small comfy self contained apartment. Easy self check in arrangements. Reasonable walking distance to supermarkets. 25 mins walk to Perlan. ( which is a wonderful place to visit) Foodhall a short walk with decent meals and alcohol. Quite a walk to the city sights but fine if you are active. … more

( which is a wonderful place to visit) Foodhall a short walk with decent meals and alcohol. Quite a walk to the city sights but fine if you are active. ( you need your own supply of tea/coffee, etc)

“Convenient quiet location”

Decent hotel in a quiet area but still convenient location, within walking distance to the city and bus stops for tour pickups. Room is nice and warm, bed is pretty comfy but pillows were really flat. Decent sized toilet, shower could be better but works good enough. Bathroom sink is kinda small … more

Decent hotel in a quiet area but still convenient location, within walking distance to the city and bus stops for tour pickups. Room is nice and warm, bed is pretty comfy but pillows were really flat. Decent sized toilet, shower could be better but works good enough. Bathroom sink is kinda small though. Kitchen works well, helpful for prepping meals for our tours. Laundry machine a tad expensive 1000 for washing and 1000 for drying. Annoying thing is you'll have to download an app to use it. Staff is friendly whenever/if i get see them, half the time there's no one at reception. Or maybe they just start late and finish early. Tried to call at 4pm for assistance for booking a taxi but was told they had finished work for the day. Sign on reception desk says reception is active 8am to 5pm. Phone at reception desk did not work, after 10mins of trying, finally gave up and tried calling on my own phone instead.

“My Visit”

We, as a family of eight, enjoyed some nice time here in Iceland. The room is good and friendly to a family with kids. The location is also convenient, near to everything. Downstairs there is a Chinese restaurant. One pity that I could not figure out how to make the TV work.
