Modern hotel in a decent location fro walking into town and being able to park, check in was supper easy , we asked if it was possible to change our room which wasn't a problem, there was nothing wrong with it we just didn't like it's location. The rooms are interesting in their design with the sink in the room, there is a decent sitting area which assume turns into a third bed, otherwise it's pretty standard in terms of what you get in any international hotel, though the toiletries are very good! The reception area / bar is pleasant and quite a nice space to relax in Breakfast is pretty standard international, no herring, you can make your own waffles using a proper waffle iron, your are the chef. All the staff are very nice nothing is too much trouble, and you won't go wrong staying here.

The location is good - it is walkable to town. However, the walk back from town is a rough uphill trek. The room is nice enough. The bathroom design is not good. There is a glass divider instead of a shower door. So when you take a shower, there is water all over the bathroom floor. So then you are using the toilet, your feet are in a small pool of water until it all drains and dries. This seems to be a bathroom design trend lately, but it just doesn't work. The sink is outside the bathroom, which I have never seem before. I can see it being useful if you are sharing a room with someone and they can use the shower while you use the sink and mirror to brush teeth, shave, put on makeup. There was a small amount of mold on the shower floor. Really nice L'Occitane toiletries - big sized, and attached to the wall. I like the nice bench to sit on. I also like the luggage bench. I hate leaving my bag on the floor and having to bend over to get things. I love the bench, it is sturdy and practical. The room had a kettle to make tea or coffee, dryer, blackout curtains. Breakfast buffet is ok, not great. It is good enough but not special.

This hotel was OK, but I would look to stay at a different hotel if visiting Akureyri again. Check-in was easy, and the staff at the front desk are friendly and efficient. The location is a bit outside of central Akureyri, a short walk up the hill, which was fine. Parking was easy. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had tons of natural light and a view of the mountains, but the room was awkwardly, and I would say stupidly, laid out. The bathroom was split into a shower and a watercloset with sink. The shower does not have a door, just a curtain. If you are traveling as a couple, and one of you gets up before the other, if you take a shower, it means the person in bed gets to hear all of your shower as there is not door. After drying off, you then need to walk around the room to get to the water closet to do the rest of your post-shower activities. The water closet was also awkward as it was just a sliding glass door that did not go all the way to the ceiling. All toilet sounds echo and go into the rest of the room. It’s especially awkward as this is right next to the headboard of the bed. I think this bathroom layout was chosen to be space efficient, but it came at the cost of making the room much less pleasant than it should have been.

I’m writing this review on my first night staying at this hotel. The location is great, the property is beautiful, and the staff are lovely, but I can’t give this hotel a high rating because they have fallen into the trap of prioritizing “design” over comfort, when design *should be* comfort in a hotel. The bathrooms are very problematic. The *number one* priority when it comes to bathrooms is privacy, and these bathrooms have absolutely none. A sliding glass door separates the toilet from the room. You may as well be sitting on the toilet in the middle of the room. (Never mind the fact that if you turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night it will illuminate the entire room.) The shower is completely open onto the room, so if my partner wakes up early tomorrow, I really can’t sleep in. And why, in 2024, are there not outlets next to the bed? This is basic stuff. Putting aside the fact that it just makes charging one’s phone inconvenient, there are other more important things to consider. My partner uses a CPAP machine. Without an outlet next to the bed, we have to plug the machine in to the outlet that is on the other side of the bathroom door, which is going to be a tripping hazard in the middle of the night. I’m not looking forward to another night here. It’s very, very disappointing.
