We had a Really excellent experience. Great facilities and very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were amazing and we loved the spa. The availability for the spa was great as well. Good prices. Shout out to the reception staff for making the trip what it was and their recommendations.

Exceptional professional service and attention to detail. It felt like an urban oasis. My first night I heard music/noise from another area of the hotel that kept me awake. I asked if there was another room to accommodate and with a fully booked weekend they accommodated my move to a quieter floor; a room with an excellent view. This was above and beyond - a touch I truly appreciated for a quiet weekend. 5 star cleanliness. The spa and exercise room is small but sufficient for relaxation after exploring the city in the cold and rain. In the Verno House doorstep are a number of excellent restaurants - International food along with a couple exceptional Hungarian options. I will return and recommend Verno Hotel without reservation!

The service level was on par with what we came to expect (minimal) in Hungary. We spent 5 nights and 4.5 days there (only because I couldn't change our plane tickets to go home sooner). We saw the most smiles from the Hungarians when they were able to decline us a service "No we don't have anymore coffee/ice cream/pizza/yes the kitchen closed early today/no that's not open today etc... Room service: We ordered room service one night and the receptionist responded with a deep sigh/audible annoyance and a "Let me call the kitchen, I'll call you back". He did not, but 15 min later, two slightly overtoasted croque monsieur sandwiches arrived to the room. My hungry children shared one and declined the second which based on their appearance, was a fair decision. The restaurant: On the first day with nice weather, we asked the waiter of the hotel restaurant to have a drink on the patio, and the blond very young waiter promptly told me, that was not possible but I could have a drink at the bar (bar stools) with my two young children because all the regular tables in the restaurant (!) were reserved from 7 pm and onward. I told him my kids are too young for a bar stool and it's 5.30, surely we can sit at a regular table for a drink. He then agreed. But the mood was ruined. And then we sat inside with lounge music at 5.30 pm with 70 degrees outside, wondering why the many waiters chatting in the corner could not serve a diet coke outside to a family of three... The room: On arrival, the room next to us played Britney Spears at club level noise, I asked the front desk to help me because it went on past midnight (even on vacation, music this loud past midnight is excessive and it resumed the next morning). They sent up mr Gabor Nagyvaradi (director of sales), who said he would take care of it. Clearly he didn't; the music continued and when I went to speak with the people in the room they confirmed my suspicion, that he did not in fact contact them. Thanks! Very helpful. I suspect he was just happy to prance around in a suit and hand out his business card, telling me to please let him know if he could help me.... We booked a superior room to sleep 3 people, yet were provided with two individual bed duvets. Considering the general level of attentiveness, I did not pursue a third and just shared one with one of my children. I don't think that was appropriate but it's tiring to be met by inability to comlete simple tasks and accompanied by sour faces and indifference, so to try to maintain our spirits, we opted to interact with the staff only when we had specific questions. The restaurant: The waiters in the restaurant are very young (inexperienced). We travel quite a bit, both in the US and Europe and this hotel is an ok 4 star hotel, but it is not 5 star level. I recognize that there seems to be a general hostility/disgruntlement with foreigners/tourists, but at a 5 star hotel, you'd expect them to weed out the people with such poor attitudes. This was not the case at this hotel. The food was fine but not great. The front desk: We struggled sorting out whether children are allowed in the thermal baths as web site and hotel information is contradictory and 90% of the information is provided in Hungarian only. I learned the hard way that in short, children under 14 should not go, because they will charge you full price and once you are by the edge of the bath, they will angrily tell you, that children are not permitted inside the water. Having gone to the Gellert baths the day prior and had a terrible experience (at the Gellert baths, they reluctantly let us in with some heavy sighing/grunting/hand wringing - we were one adult and two children - , despite me personally showing up the day prior to ask whether children are permitted and being told yes). It was in all awful and we left after 15 minutes. I wanted to trouble shoot a repeat attempt at the thermal baths, since it seems to be what this city is famous for and I figured maybe our experience was an outlier. The nice female receptionist at the hotel tried to help me find out if kids can go. After some reading online, she happily declared that they can go. Based on our experience the day before, which I told her about, I asked her to confirm whether they can actually go in the water. She did some more exploring and finally discovered that children can go "to look at the water" but they can not actually go in the water. We live in Florida, my children are great swimmers and have opportunity to swim all the time, so missing out on a dilapidated albeit historical giant bath tub supervised by a handful of angry gatekeepers was a manageable disappointment because they have pool access year round, but I paid almost 250 usd to go to Gellert bath bc of all the items you need to purchase (yes, you have to provide your own slippers, towels, bath caps and they are conveniently sold at the facility by an angry Hungarian and at Disney level prices and if you forget an item at the "gift store", they will send you back out in the lobby, in your swim suit no less, to purchase). The funny thing is, that I had to point out to her, that it would be pretty ridiculous to then go with two children, since we would be charged (it was 100 euro for the entrance alone for 3 people, and another 120 euro for towels etc) to not be able to use the facilities. She did agree with that, but I would hope she would come that conclusion on her own, and not try to send me anyway. I am not convinced she on her own would have stopped me from going to the thermal baths again. I do think it's reasonable to expect a bit more forward thinking from the receptionist/concierge at a 5 star level hotel, but then again, I don't think this hotel meets the criteria for a 5 star hotel.
