I had an excellent three night stay at the Hotel Lion D'Or. The staff was professional and flexible, they let me check in early, the room was nice, I loved the breakfast and you are literally across the street from the train station. Easy access to a laundromat and they also provide laundry services and you are only a 10 minute walk to the beautiful & historic downtown area. I couldn't ask or expect more from them and I highly recommend this hotel.

The location is very nice since it’s by the train station and close to many stores, restaurants, and attractions. They have a bar and restaurant in the hotel with good food and reasonable prices. The desk staff were helpful and friendly. Our problem was with the AC since the rooms are controlled by a panel at the front desk. We had to open the windows which don’t have screens. My husband was not a fan of the shower design since water got all over the floor since it’s a zero entry style shower with a partial glass wall.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and it was wonderful. 1. Location - from the airport it is most easy and chip to arrive at the hotel by the bus 300 who is located outside the terminally. You get of at the central station of Haarlem and the hotel is right there 2. Rooms - standard, comfi and clean. We had a single and a double rooms and the different between them is not much. The staff is helpful and welcoming We didn't get the breakfast because we prefer to eat late, the price difference between hotel in Haarlem and Amsterdam at the pick season is favor Haarlem dramatically 3. Haarlem is a quite and butifull town, and prefer to amsterdam it is more safe. You can travel in Haarlem for one or two days

The hotel itself is in a great location, not just for the railway station but also the buses to the airport, an excellent way to get to and from your flight. The public rooms are pleasant and light, the corridors above quite the opposite. My room was a good size, nice bathroom, tea, coffee and (unusually at this price point) a decent TV selection. The front desk is also manned 24 hours a positive over my normal go to place in the district Staats. What lets this down, and I’ve noticed this in more than one place in the Netherlands is the service. The Netherlands is very laid back, this can have problems when it comes to running a hotel. Your problem is not their problem. Within an hour of checking in workman appeared by my window on the 2nd floor and started attacking the brick work. Any idea of resting or even watching the TV were lost. I went downstairs. Yes, they did know about the work, which kind of asks the question why didn’t you tell me about the scheduled work at check in? But it appears it was OK, because the work was only for that day. With a one night booking this was hardly any solution. But it would be finished by five . Then there was that look as if ‘I don’t know what your problem is’. And you give up. Then when you return to the room the room key does not work and the instant response is that ‘is must have been near a phone’. They reuse the cards (they are attached to a room number tag). Perhaps continually reusing the cards is the issue? The room smelled of cigarette smoke which is an issue for me, but frankly I left it. If it’s not a problem for them, it’s not a problem. I actually visit Haarlem quite regularly - some four times in the past 18 months. I should stay here again because the pricing for the quality of rooms is good. But I won’t because the staff didn’t seem that bothered.
