This hotel is in a perfect location, especially if you are planning an extended weekend in Amsterdam. It is very easy to get there from the airport by public transport, or in our case by taxi. The central station is just a few steps away. As soon as you leave the hotel, you are practically in the center. It is very close to all the main attractions or starting points for excursions, which is very important if you are traveling with children. The hotel itself is very neat, modern (perhaps too modern for some) decorated, but we liked it. The staff is always smiling and very helpful. But we liked the rooms the most. Spacious, clean, warm. The beds are very comfortable, so after a whole day of walking and sightseeing, we enjoyed a rest and a long and pleasant sleep.

We were hesitant about the railroad being close, but were given rooms at the back and they were quiet. The rooms were small-ish but well-designed for anything you needed. Reservations were smooth and our rooms were near each other and at the back, so were quiet. Super-mod decor from a handful of years ago is starting to show age. Staff were attentive and friendly (concierges knowledge variable). Location perfect for catch the trams (Use the trams!) and near fun casual eating area and several key attractions. Restaurant next door upmarket and very good. All in all, a very good place to stay.

“Incredible service, busy location”

The people at this hotel were consistently top notch. Front desk, conceirge, breakfast waiters - all were quite helpful and friendly. The hotel is literally across the street from the train station, so it's in the middle of the tourist zoo (for better, for worse). Pretty much everything is walkable from the hotel (museums, restaurants, shopping), but it's a mob scene getting to and from the place. It's pricey, but we were there working so it was worth the money for the convenience (and the service). The conceirge pulled a rabbit out of his Parisian hat and booked us a dinner reservation for 10 people, on a Monday, with about 10 hours notice - minor miracle. The other conceirge directed us to a great laundrette where we got a week's worth of clothing washed and pressed for about 25 Euros (one pair of jeans in the hotel was 11 Euros!). The waiters and chef in the breakfast were incredibly efficient and quite helpful, and the food was all good quality. We were NOT impressed with the Portuguese restaurant - food was decidely mediocre and (of course, in a hotel) expensive. The silver lining there was the hostess who called her grandfather in Porto to get us two of the most amazing dinner recommendations in Porto - all because we'd mentioned we were headed that way. Kudos to her - she made our trip (to Porto!). So . . . if I were going to AMS for work, I'd likely book the place again.

The location of the hotel is great if you want an easy walk to/from the train station. There are lots of bars/restaurants in walking distance, but that is true for many other hotels in Amsterdam. This hotel is certainly close walking distance to the red light district, so be cautious if walking around and that is not your scene. With it's location, the area around the hotel is lively. In the morning, we went out around 8AM and there was garbage on the sidewalks around the hotel from people partying the night before. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean. Our hotel room location was the main reason for my 3 star review. Our room was adjacent to the elevators...we did not even have to leave the elevator enclave to get to our room door (it was so close we walked right by it the first time). I did not ask to change rooms as we were only there 1 night.
