The hotel is close enough to the center and using a map will show you that different bridge entrances to the center allow you to walk most places fairly quickly. Positives, excellent reception desk that’s manned 24 hours. That’s a big improvement over many places these days. Rooms pleasant, if rather sterile, Clean but very hot in the summer - see attachment of rather strange posting of how the air conditioning does (or doesn’t work). They seem to be busy and while I skipped the breakfast there were signs in the (world’s nosiest) elevator that at busy times breakfast times are assigned. That might not suit many. While I found the front desk very friendly the cleaning crew were a little less nice. When I returned at 1.30 p.m. one afternoon they wanted to clean the room. Did I mind leaving? I had something to do, could they come back later? Did I mind leaving? I got the message and let them have the room. There is a bar. I never saw anyone using it, but again a good benefit in a hotel like this.

My husband, our daughter and I booked this hotel for 2 weeks. The location is great: close to railway station, bus station and city center. The staff is friendly. The cleaning up after breakfast or just having a drink and a snack is really slow. We had a drink, went out for dinner and two hours later, the glasses were still on the table how we left it. Table is right in front of the window. Bar service isn't really quick either. The bitterballen however are delucious: you have to try them, yummy!! The outdoor seating area also needs more attention regarding cleaning, also the footpath: cigarette buts etc. I can't understand why some people don't use the provided ashtrays. We enjoyed the room size and the bathroom! A suggestion to update the entrance, bar and breakfast area: get rid of allthe artificial, outdated vases with flowers and replace them either with living plants or fresh colorful flowers. l

“Great hotel except for bar”

Hotel is in a good location within walking distance of the main station and the town centre. There was a big group of us as we were there for West Ham’s game v Alkmaar. The check in was very friendly and efficient and the room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom a very good size... more

Hotel is in a good location within walking distance of the main station and the town centre. There was a big group of us as we were there for West Ham’s game v Alkmaar. The check in was very friendly and efficient and the room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom a very good size with a great shower. I would have given this maximum stars but we specifically asked what time the bar closed when we checked in. We went out for a few drinks and as we were told the hotel bar closed at midnight we returned about 11pm to have a couple more and by this time there was one man on reception and he said the bar was closed. There were quite a few West Ham fans who would have spent quite a bit of money but he was adamant he was just security and not a barman. This was the night before the game so we checked again next morning and were again told midnight. When we got back from the match absolutely dying for a drink, the bar had again closed at 11. Very disappointing considering it is a very nice hotel.

Strategic location between Alkmaar central station and the city center, both are in about 500 mt walking distance. Friendly staff both at reception and breakfast. Two things I particularly appreciated: 1) the reception team had well noted my previous requests of having glutenfree breakfast as well as an early check at 1 pm and had my room key ready upon arrival, which was great 2) as during check out, the receptionist on duty was on the phone, another staff member stepped in and avoided long waiting time by checking me out. If I go back to Alkmaar for hiking and need a hotel close to the station again, I will definitely consider staying at Amrath again.
