This hotel was very convenient for some fantastic beaches and close to the center of Samos. Very traditional building, recently renovated. The owners are very friendly. They are willing to propose you places you can go to the island and spend a wonderful time. The room was very clean, with our bathroom and our own balcony with an awesome sea view. Very good mattress too. Overall we are very satisfied from this hotel.

Overall the hotel and its management performed admirably despite our difficulties. I want to be fair in my review of Amanda, so I have to start with the fact of other reviews. In my opinion the hotel did not measure up to those reviews. So we were somewhat disappointed, but that was not because of inadequacies of the hotel. It’s because we reviewers bring different perspectives and expectations. What I need to do is be more attentive to determining the measures being used by other TripAdvisor reviewers. For instance, one reviewer commented that “The balcony has a great view. All you see is the deep blue.” From my perspective, I could see a beautiful church, a residential area that extended 300 yards, and a glimpse of the blue sea beyond. I will post a picture taken from the breakfast area on the upper floor, a better view than from our room. Having often taken lodging actually on the oceanfront, we misinterpreted the perspective of the reviewer. Several reviewers commented on the warm reception and friendly feeling. Indeed, Elena prepared and served us Greek coffee before we completed check in and moving in. Our challenge was linguistic and poor communication. We take responsibility for being linguistically challenged; it’s a common failing among Americans. We are spoiled by finding hosts who usually speak at least a little English. We found Greek and German spoken but were challenged in communication. Actually, Elena went to some effort to direct us to a choice restaurant nearby. Still it took us several days to find it. Perhaps when she said a walk of “ten meters” she may have meant ten minutes. Nevertheless, our room was spacious and clean. It was cleaned daily while we were there. For Greek hotels in our experience, it was very spacious with room to move around and chairs for relaxing. The balcony was comfortable and more spacious than others we have experienced in Greece. The beds were firm and comfortable. The shower/tub was a bit small, perhaps even hazardous for standing due to dual levels. But it functioned well. Elena served us breakfast every morning: bread, cheese, olives, tomato, homemade marmalade. And she made us Greek coffee when it would have been easier to serve “nescafe” that Greeks inexplicably seem to prefer these days. She also did some laundry for us for a small charge. That communication was facilitated by her use of a translation app on her tablet. One more detail was difficulty in communicating and making a reservation prior to our departure from home. I started with their contact webpage and got a reply with details. I could not complete a reservation from the reservation page. So I sent an email that was never acknowledged. Perhaps that was all a technical failure. We eventually reserved via TripAdvisor because of such good reviews. And a later email to the hotel elicited a response to confirm our reservation. We did not get a reply to a request for directions to the hotel. But we did not have any difficulty finding it. Overall the hotel and its management performed admirably despite our difficulties.
