Having read some pretty scathing reviews of this hotel, I was sceptical about what I would find on arrival! However, I have to wonder if those reviewers stayed at the same place! Let`s start with the staff - they really couldn1t have been friendlier or more helpful. I requested extra pillows and they were in the room in minutes. The room, although compact and with dated furniture, was spotless; the bathroom had an excellent shower and there were complimentary toiletries. Plenty of power points in the room and a fridge too. Towels changed whenever necessary, usually daily, and bed linen changed every three days. The breakfast was very good with a varied selection - (not very) hot choice but fresh bread and fruit, pastries, yogurt and honey and preserves. The layout of the breakfast room needs looking at - glasses for juice and water are hidden by the coffee machine and not very accessible and people queueing for bread in the doorway! Food is available throughout the day and the menu is very varied. A bit strange to have to order an evening meal after breakfast but not really a problem. Staff work very hard keeping the whole place very clean, and the grounds are immaculate. The pool area was also immaculate with plenty of sunbeds but I think there could be a problem if the place is full. Bar prices quite reasonable but coffee very expensive! The coach taking us back to the airport wasn`t picking us up until 19.25 and we were able to keep our room until then at no extra charge, which was brilliant. The only reason I wouldn`t return to this hotel is the distance from town - it is a good 15 minute (very) brisk walk and there is no lighting on the way back until you reach the main road. A really nice break in a lovely place - accept it for a three star hotel and you`ll have a great time.

This was marketed as a 3 star hotel and it is a 3 star hotel. But a decent one. Overall the main things that matter (the people, the facilities and the cleanliness) were good. There are some things that could make it an excellent 3 star but it didn’t stop our enjoyment. The one thing we found when arriving was that it is not obvious where reception is. Arriving late at night we did feel like an inconvenience and struggled to find any signs of life. A sign, some lights etc would make a difference. As would a trolley for luggage and someone to help the ladies carry theirs. We were also told at check in that we’d have to move rooms part way through the stay which put us in a bit of a mood initially, which is not what you want after a long journey. (We sorted this the next day and were told that we didn’t have to change if we refused, but it was an unusual experience and not something that made us feel welcome.). Whilst basic, the rooms were very clean and the linens and bed were comfortable. Whilst towels etc were changed most days, we did feel that the cleaning of the rooms after arrival could have been better during the stay. Just an odd mop and sweep up. The breakfast was very good. As vegetarians and a vegan there were enough choices for us and the breads and fruit were fresh. The coffee machine broke which was not ideal and meant the instant sachets were a disappointment. A decaf option (other than having to pay) would also be appreciated. The pool was so quiet and well maintained. You never had to worry about reserving a lounger and we could go at any time of the day and get a space. The water was clean and warm. Very enjoyable pool with plenty of space. The beach is less than a 10 minute walk and the town about 15 mins. This included all shops, restaurants and bars. So you are away from craziness but close enough to the action. Whilst you can’t have your own drinks around the pool you do have a fridge so can buy drinks and have them in your room. The bar prices are high but it’s what you expect, but the food selection is good and reasonably priced. Nothing gets watered down and it’s branded spirits and all fresh food. The chocolate milkshakes were a hit with the teenager. The grounds were kept immaculately. And the hotel cats were a real hit too (well with the cat loving members of the family). We didn’t make use of the spa apart from on the final day when we were able to use the shower facilities as our flight was late. Whilst we’d have appreciated keeping the room for a late checkout (and we said we’d be happy to pay) we appreciated that it wasn’t possible and grateful that we were given this opportunity to enjoy our final day and freshen up before travelling. The evening was quiet, which suited us. There was a karaoke evening which we didn’t take part in, but we enjoyed cocktails that evening anyway! Other than this it was very chilled, which I guess is why the bar was called the lazy croc! What makes this hotel are undoubtedly the people. Tom was not only a milkshake expert, he kept us fed and hydrated throughout the day. From breakfast through to 4pm he was on hand with beer, wine, lunch, ice creams and (very occasionally) water. A really nice man whose English was superb. Paris looked after us in the late afternoon and evening. Always on hand to deliver a great night cap, he was a font of knowledge on the hotel and area. I’m sure the team meet many people but we left feeling like they were friends. Along with the lady at breakfast, Yanis on the reception, the gardener and the owner (along with his very friendly Australian relatives who had come to visit) the team made us feel extremely welcome. It is a 3 star hotel. And rightly so. But it does it to a solid level. Of course there are things that could be changed to make it an outstanding 3 star, but it could also be a lot worse. For the money, the location, services and quality was good. We would have gladly stayed longer. Thank you everyone at the Hanioti Village. Our first visit back to Hanioti in 25 years. Hopefully we won’t leave it so long next time! Oh-And if you ever want to get rid of that little ginger kitten, then you can send him to the UK where my son will gladly take delivery! He hasn’t stopped going on about it since we got home.

Breakfast buffet selection good but at busy times difficult to obtain your selection as breakfast room very small. The staff are all friendly.
