Lovely hotel smack in the middle of Hamburg. 2 min walk from the town hall square and plenty of historic sights, great restaurants and shopping. Lovely room…..great shower which is always a good sign! Reception area very nice which is also the breakfast bar. So much to choose from for breakfast all of which was very tasty. Whilst we tend to go and explore a place for breakfast the food looked too good not to try! Overall a very nice hotel. Not cheap but it is at the heart of a busy city.

It is hard to find a hotel where everything just works. Staff, service, room, food etc. Very often there's issues with staff being rude or disinterested or the food being below par or something doesn't work in the room. But every now and then you find one that just works. A hotel where the staff look up and seem genuinely pleased to see you, the rooms have everything you need and a bit extra, the food and drinks hit the spot and are exactly what you need, and everything else is just, well, right. The Henri Hotel is that one. Located smack bang in the middle of the city, but away from busy roads. 5 minute walk to all key areas in the city such as the main train station, Rathaus, shopping etc. It's an old business building I'm guessing, with some remnants on display. Reception is in the lounge/kitchen area with a 24hr staffed desk. We were welcomed with a bright smile, a joke and a Londoner. Son, a staff member, was always happy to help and made us feel as though they had been looking forward to seeing us, as did all the staff. Room was large, excellent bed, coffee maker, TV, plenty of sockets, not a huge amount of cupboard space but not restrictive either. Bathroom and shower area were compact, but good with everything where it should be. (I should point out that the loo roll was a very good soft brand!) There is a small gym for use, not huge but enough to break a sweat and burn off the beer and bratwurst, a small pre-booked spa and a lounge and kitchen area. The lounge has great comfy chairs and the kitchen is open 24hrs for you to help yourself on an honesty basis. You take a beer or other beverage from the fridge, or a cookie etc, and fill out a form and hand to reception to add to your bill. Perfect. Reception staff can also mix you a cocktail if you want. Breakfast is buffet style. Some bacon and eggs are there with plenty of lovely bread, cheese, meats, cereals etc. Coffee and tea and juices. This is all extra at 17 Euros per person. Any issues, the reception staff all speak english, but how about you grab your phone, open Google Translate and try your hand at asking for something simple in German? It really goes a long way. All in all, I can't fault this hotel, staff, food or service. It's not a lengthy holiday stay hotel but for 3 nights this was perfect.

Beautiful Hotel! We arrived late in the evening and were greeted by helpful, pleasant staff who gave us a tour of the hotel reception, bar area and breakfast area. We checked into our rooms with ease. The rooms are incredibly clean, really well presented and extremely comfortable. The fridge in the restaurant area is always open, you could help yourself to drinks and simply popped your room number on a form to be charged. There is so much choice for breakfast! Bacon, Eggs, croissants, yoghurt, cereal, fruit, ham and cheeses with a selection of milks, cold juices and hot beverages. Ideally located, within walking distance of restaurants and bars. Without hesitation, when returning to Hamburg - I will be staying here!

Just an overnight rest stop en route north and I think I’d have plumbed for a cheaper option, like the Bismarck opposite the station, but he thinks he’s worth it and books Henri without consulting. I’m cynical about Corporate Hotel PLC, how they’ve created a look to appeal to cooler people. Last night’s hotel in Frankfurt had records (vinyl to Gen Zs), in frames everywhere. Henri, being in an austere red brick warehouse of a building with an entrance in a canyon-like street which blokes our mobile signals, opts to adopt a 1940s retro appeal, which works well. Fake Bakelite light switches, retro images from magazines and just enough modernity to stop it being a museum piece like the Stazi headquarters in Berlin. Our reception worker speaks rapidly, little eye contact and fails to acknowledge my husband’s deafness is not getting him anywhere. I politely elaborate and enunciate where necessary and the job of checking in is done. Minimal staff, so help yourself, mark your purchases on a Sheet and hand it to reception to be added to your room bill. It’s like a self checkout in Tesco. Our room 208 on the 2nd floor is nice, it overlooks a building site, which will probably be like that for a good 18 months. It’ll be a new hotel. The drilling and excavating is annoying. The noise stops about 5pm and resumes about 7.30am, it’s a comfortable bed and we sleep well. Breakfast looks good but again, it’s laid out to look good, not practical. I can’t find anything and look as confused as Joe Biden at a press conference. Overall, it’s overpriced for a hotel that requires you to do as much as it does.
