Contrary to previous reviews the reception is now open 24 hours and you no longer need a code for the elevator. I only went to reception once to borrow an umbrella, but I did find it reassuring to know that I could not get locked out at night! The hotel is very easy to find if walking from the nearest S-Bahn station and it only takes 5-10 minutes. Just head for the large yellow post office building basically and then follow the clearly marked hotel sign. From the airport you only need to change trains once at the central station. There are some vacant lots in the area obviously awaiting redevelopment, but the area felt perfectly safe at all times of the day. It is actually not far from Altona and you can easily walk to that district to find a good choice of shops and restaurants including Ikea :-) Nearer to home there is a nice large supermarket opposite the S-Bahn station. My room was small, but very clean and modern (nice shower etc.) with a spacious wardrobe for storage. The free WIFI is good, but was a bit patchy in my room which was on a corner of the building. This was not really a problem, but I had to move around the room to get a signal sometimes. Would recommend this hotel if booked for a good price as it makes a good base for exploring Hamburg (being close to most things by public transport).

We stayed at the Ghotel for only one night, and partly chose it for its free parking. We were somewhat confused about how to get into the hotel from street level. Turns out you have to take an elevator from a courtyard (outside!) up to the lobby. Definitely different. Our room was fairly large, with a big window looking out into a large courtyard (not the same one as the elevator). It was clean and ver quiet with good wifi (free) and it included breakfast (also very good). There was an issue next morning when we checked out and found out the elevator was out of commission. It meant a long and convoluted trek (with our suitcases!) down some hallways, down some stairs and then down what looked like a fire exit and out into a parking lot, but not the one with our car. That was a block away yet. I was just glad we were checking out and not in, lugging suitcases up all those stairs.

“Good place to stay”
A good value hotel in Hamburg. Rooms are basic but clean, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent, with the attendant being particularly helpful with regard to special dietary requirements. I'd certainly stay at this hotel again.
