Large modern hotel which is a 20 minute walk from the train station or a 10 minute tram #2 ride to the Theater stop very near the hotel. The tram is preferable to walking from the train even if you have rolling luggage because of the cobblestone sidewalks. We reserved a quiet third floor room with external windows & a view of the theater plaza and a few trees. It's important to note that the Dorint is one of the few hotels in town with air conditioning in the rooms. It's a bit of a hassle to visit the front desk mini market every time you want a cold beverage or snack, so stock up in advance. (The refrigerated display cases were surrounded with flying gnats when we visited.) We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, but you will pass 2 bakeries within walking distance (on the tram line) en route to the hotel. The hotel is nothing fancy, but it was clean & met our needs for seeing Erfurt, Eisenach, Schloss Wartburg, & Weimar via train using the Thuringian day pass available at the train station (cheap regional train ticket). In town, skip the Schnitzler restaurant (on the large square that looks up at the twin churches) unless you want your weekly supply of salt in one meal. There is a Thuringian Tourist Information office just across from the main entrance of the train station that was very pleasant, eager & informative, but you may not notice it unless you're looking for it.

Front desk receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Check in went smoothly. Car parking is possible underneath the hotel, however parking spots are narrow. Front desk receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Check in went smoothly. Car parking is possible underneath the hotel, however parking spots are narrow. Do think €20 for one night parking is quite expensive. The room was simple and little bit outdated, however it’s was clean and the bed was fine. Breakfast is very good with large variety of meat, cheese, bread, etc.
