Hostel is conveintently located just a few stops from the main square Alexanderplatz and few minute walk from supermarkets and some affordable restaurants. Room had good wi-fi connection and heating. Towels were supllied and bathroom was shared but cleaned every 2nd day. Younger receptionist was helpful and kind while the older one (I assume the owner) was unwelcoming and charged us 1.5€ for 2 sheets of paper + hardly spoke English.

My four-night stay in Hotel AVAlex had its ups and downs ... sit tight as I narrate to you my journey. Arrival is easy; they use a very handy app that can unlock both the front door and your individual room when in bluetooth range. The street door has its own code provided to you in correspondence. We were fortunate enough to have a room on the lowest floor possible; I did read about issues with climbing five flights of stairs (no elevator) with baggage. For us on floor 1, it was quite easily accessible. Upon entering our room, one of the beds was unmade, clearly slept in, the towels dirty and the trash not emptied. It was around 9pm and the front desk was closed for the night, so we emailed the hotel and went to dinner. Upon receiving no response in the hour or so of our meal, we called the emergency number several times before its closing (11pm), to no response. Finally, a message via WhatsApp did the trick, and we were able to get another room on the same floor quite easily and quickly through a new key on the app previously mentioned. The next morning, I awoke to someone unlocking and opening our door. The staff clearly had not been notified of our room switch and someone (maybe looking to clean our room?) looked into two sleeping college students lmao. She gasped. I laughed. It was weird. Other than those small fiascos, the place was quite clean. The bathroom was always spotless, as was the shower. We seldom saw other guests, it felt like we had the place to ourselves at times. It was also incredibly cheap and well-positioned within the city. Price to quality ratio pretty good, I'd say.

“easy to check in”

the hotel made the special arrangement with me since I had the late flight arrival. the room was clean, not too many guest were staying at the time, so the showers and restrooms were fairly available that I appreciated. the location is goo, close to supermarket and tram stops.

This Hostel is just as it is described and is exactly what you are paying for. Worth it if you are looking for something cheap. Its in a good location about 30 minute walk to city centre. Standard amenities. They were doing construction on the building while I was there, which was noisy and they didn't inform me about beforehand, but did give a 10% discount because of this. There is lots of stairs to climb with no other option that matters to anyone.
