I am a repeat offender to this lovely property in Berlin. I have stayed at Hotel Air in Berlin for numerous years as I travel to Berlin every March. This trip had me booked in and staying for five nights. My explanation below to clarify why I keep on returning. Apart from its great location within the city, access to all things Berlin being easy and functional, the hotel being quirky and all the other clear advantages - there is more to this hotel which I would love to share with possible future travellers looking for Berlin accommodation. Hotel Air in Berlin is owner managed, Franca and her team run the property with a lot of heart and given the chance, take time to meet and get to know them. Franca is hard working and she has managed to put together a team of loyal and long hard working people that make Hotel Air in Berlin the very special place that it is. Jenny handles the booking enquiries and ensures, should you communicate the preferred details to her, that you get a room and have a stay which is suited to your own needs. At check in, you will likely meet Andy - Andy has run the front of house at the Hotel for close on, or even over, 30 years. Don't judge a book by its cover, Andy is empathetic, well travelled and has a really good understanding of traveller needs. A small discussion with him and he will assist you in making the right choices in restaurants, where to shop for whatever needs you might have, access to the closest public transport networks and always on hand to pour you a coffee or a drink from the bar. Breakfast is served in the hotel and the morning service is managed by Theresa and Fatima - both of whom have been there for at least the past 15 years that I have been staying at the hotel. A warm smile and morning greeting goes a long way when it is true and dedicated and both of them work really hard to deliver their best service for you. The hotel operates a 24 hour reception and when returning after dinner or a night on the town, the late service is run by Sukru who is always happy to greet you with a warm smile and welcomes you back home. There are few places or services in modern day Berlin where the people truly make an effort to ensure you feel welcome. It is clear that the Hotel Air in Berlin team love what they do and certainly ensure that you feel that your custom to them is valued and appreciated. The culture of caring in customer service in a true and authentic manner is a rare find these days. Hotel Air in Berlin delivers it beautifully!

A small-scale hotel with friendly & helpful staff. I think the building cherishes a long history as a hotel. I got a room on the first floor, where the original floor plan is probably still in place. In the corridors and shared spaces you’ll notice many stylish, historical details (and you cannot miss the elegant staircase!) I had a single room. Basic furniture, a rather wide bed (comfy). Very high ceiling and classic high window. There was no wall decoration, though, which made the room feel narrower than it was. But it was mostly very clean, and the shower warm and comforting. On the ground floor you’ll find an outdoor patio (a well-hidden gem!), which is perfect for breakfast in summer, but the indoors breakfast area is also nice and tidy. The whole place has a small-scale and personal atmosphere. The only thing I didn't like was that my room was situated above a smoking area, carrying cigarette smell indoors. But fortunately that did not happen too often. Also, the street can be noisy at night (but that is no wonder, in such a central area in a capital city!) Closing the window helped. I did not hear voices or tv sounds from other guests through the wall. I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to those who are not looking for a 5-star hotel chain, but who do prefer a special place with a personal and friendly touch.

“7 nights in room 302”

A small table fan was in the room which was good as it was quite warm. Bed was comfortable. There was a soap/shampoo combo dispenser in bathroom. Clean towels, bed remade, and trash was taken out daily. Staff were super friendly. Breakfast was adequate with hot and cold items. Posted start time was 7am but while we were there coffee was available by 5:30 and some breakfast items already out. Good location for restaurants, markets and trains. Layout was weird - it is a very old building. Despite having an elevator to the different floors, you still had to go up or down stairs with your bags. Elevator was accessed from an outside courtyard.

This was like a trip back in time, back to the 80s……the room was possibly the most basic i have seen in the last 20 years and the decor very depressing. Staff very friendly and accommodating but when you book a room you want a room that is a pleasure to stay in, sadly this wasn’t. Pillows were like bags of cotton wool balls ( very old and deteriorating badly), the bathroom so small i could only just use the toilet, and the walls scuffed so badly in places that clearly upkeep is not on the priority list. Great location however the thought of returning to the room each night didn’t appeal to me personally and i wont stay here again. Have a look at the competition and see what a room should look like in 2024 please……potential is there but as stands there is plenty to do

“Definitely a 3* hotel - well situated”

I noticed the reviews stating the person on reception is amazing but I don’t think they were working when we were there. We would wait to hand in our key before we left for the day and the man on reception would just continue chatting to his mate and ignore us. So we took the hint and took the key out with us. He was not friendly at all. This is absolutely a 3 star hotel, perhaps more a 2. The room We had was for four of us-roomy enough and cleanish. There are two mini bar fridges, one didn’t keep anything cold and all of the beverages had been there a while. Some very close to out of date. Hairdryer provided but could melt plastic so hair was frazzled. Patio door took quite the effort to open and the patio decking boards were very sloppy. The pillows were not pillows, more like pillow cases stuffed with stuffing. We were laid in bed and a cleaner walked in after we checked in and of the four days we were there, they only came in once. The shower head wasn’t adjustable higher than about 5ft. So with two people in the room who are over 6ft, this wasn’t great. There were two velux windows given we were on the top floor and the rooms were roasting at night (no air con) but one didn’t open. The bathroom smelled when we arrived - it has no window and was really stinky so we just kept the door closed for a day. Not sure if we became used to it or if it just improved over the days we stayed. They leave a bottle of water in your room but a ticket on it says €4. We booked the hotel through a package holiday and thought all charges were included but they charged us €50 tourist tax on check out. It’s a well placed hotel for sights and restaurants but I wouldn’t rush back, very basic and needs work.
