Modern hotel in an extremely quiet neighbourhood with secure underground parking. The man who checked us in was extremely efficient and explained everything we needed to know in great detail and spoke really good english. The rooms are large, there is no air con in the room but there is a fan if needed and you can open the windows so no problem, and honestly no problem as the area is so ridiculously quiet the only thing that wakes you up in the morning is people riding their bikes to work with a friend and you can hear them chatting to each other!! There is a small fridge and lots and lots of wardrobe storage. The beds are very comfortable, foam, not too hard and not too soft....just right!!! Pillows also good. Good size bathroom, 2 sinks but with a bit of a daft shower within a large bath. You can not have a bath as there is no tap to fill it up with only the shower head which could take an age to fill and the shower is on the wrong wall so to have a shower within the glass side panel area you have to squash up against the wall, standing on the plug hole, really bad design. There is a roof top bar which is really nice overlooking the mountains, indoor and outdoor seating with blankets and heaters, one day they actually lit a log fire so we sat outside, under a cover, drinking wine in the rain. They have a good range of wine, beer cocktails etc and also serves some food such as burger or flammekuchen, open from 4-11, staff is very friendly and prices are good. Apparently they serve cake up there between 4-5 but we never got chance to have this. Breakfast was really good, everything you could wish for including hot things and even pancakes! Again staff very friendly and everything replenished very quickly. The dining room has quite a romantic feel, low lit with little artificial flickering candles on every table, very nice. They serve a buffet style evening meal which changes daily but we did not have as the town and restaurants are quite close, within about 5 min walk. The walk into town is quite dark but feels quite safe and quiet. There is a spa in the hotel which we did not use and each day they have different things going on in the hotel, we saw a yoga/Pilates class in one of the rooms, there is a list in the elevator which gives you the times and what is going on each day. Would definitely stay here again if passing and would recommend.

I would not talk about the usual stuff, many others have already done that! I will just point out what I would personally improve. The hostel itself is very nice, well placed and the staff generally look professional, with a few exceptions. 1) On arrival you should be given some vouchers. These are not from the hotel but from the city. We were not informed that they would prepare them for us and we could collect them later. We only found out about it by chance when we read the notebook with the information in the room. When we left, the receptionist excused herself on behalf of her colleagues. That was nice to hear. 2) Breakfast ends at 10am. At 10am and 2 minutes past we were asked (in a polite way) to leave as the breakfast time was already over! I understand that we are not supposed to come into the breakfast room or even take food from the bar after 10am, but please be kind and allow me to enjoy my breakfast for a few more minutes after that time. 3) One evening at dinner we could not find a table. They had booked most of the tables for a large group. It was not nice to find that we could not enjoy our dinner, especially when we paid a not cheap price (27 EUR/person) for a buffet plus extra for drinks. So that night, after waiting for some time to get a table for two, we ended up eating three to a table.

Our hotel we had booked turned out to be closed for renovations. We didn't find out until we arrived to check in and it was closed for renovations (Axelmannstein). In a panic, I booked this place for one night, so we'd have a place to sleep. The young woman at the desk was very nice. Parking is underground, for a fee. Once I unlocked our room, my face fell. The room was clean, but very sparse. The painted cinder block walls were a turn off. The safe was old school (using a key). The bathroom was very clean. We were hungry and tired, so we ate at their restaurant (25Euros each). Yikes! The food was very average with a very limited selection-- dry and overcooked duck for the main course. Salads, breads and rice pudding for dessert (my husband won't eat it, but I will). The server was very gracious and kind, I have to say. The bed was comfortable, but I knew we wouldn't stay here for our remaining six day stay. Later that day, I commented to my cousin that the room felt like a hostel (he is born and raised here). He said that the place actually once was a hostel! As far as cleanliness goes, this hotel gets five stars. It just wasn't the caliber of place I prefer. While it's located in a very nice neighborhood, it's not conveniently located to the downtown area that I prefer.
