Gardens are fabulous/wonderful/beyond beautiful. Welcome pretty good but little (or no) coordination with the conciergerie - the concierge should be part of the greeting/sign-in process so that all the numerous questions/requests/concerns that accompany the extensive planning of a "trip of a lifetime" are addressed upon arrival (or assurance that they have been coordinated prior to arrival) - beware that many things have to be arranged in advance or risk being filled-up/unavailable - this includes certain dining reservations, activities, etc. Somewhat complicated to know who/which department handles what - there was a lot of "oh, housekeeping handles that - call them" or "Dining handles that - call them" or "the concierge handles that - call them" or "oh that's room service - call them." Don't get me wrong - your needs and desires WILL be met (and with a smile) so these comments are just "wish I had known" (or better yet, wish they had oriented me upon arrival). Overall service is good or even great but I'd say, "reactively" as opposed to "proactively." However, that fine line is extremely hard for staff to navigate, I fully understand that. In my opinion this property does not quite have the ability at this point in time and development to be able to recruit/develop personnel and procedures quite up to R&C standards - the intent and desire may be there on the part of management but the personnel have a ways way to go with training and sensitivity. I do believe the personnel can get to the right point in time and due course, but more work is needed. On the other hand, there is much to be said for the staff being "real and authentic" - the last thing I would want is for a property to not feel part of the local culture and people and I would certainly not want to experience the type of elite snobbishness that it's possible to find at R&C properties in some parts of the world (Europe and especially Italy "get it" just fine, but especially in the U.S, the "R&C" designation can be an opening for a haughtiness that seems to be bubble under the surface). I guess what I'm saying is that overall I would NOT change the personnel or the attitude or the service at Le Bora Bora - I only comment in order to help them become even better than they already are (which is very good) and to help guests going in feel at ease with expectations and to understand and appreciate the "local" element of the wonderful place called Bora Bora. And this is a good place to mention the foremost reason you should pick Le Bora Bora over the several other top-tier resorts including Four Seasons and St. Regis: local authenticity. Almost all the resorts are fabulous, but take a look at YouTube to compare rooms: which room could just as well be located in Manhattan? Le Bora Bora definitely stands out with local art and cultural touches). My tips: book activities, spa and dining prior to your visit. Do not miss the spa. Workout room (gym) music (can be crazy loud) is controlled by the desk at the spa. Don't miss walking through the gardens. If you have room service (including the welcome fruit and wine you may get) do not expect housekeeping to remove the dishes (!) you have to place them yourself outside your unit or they will sit there for days. Aggravating (for us anyway) pillows - very "overstuffed" = neck pain (why do hotels do this)? The dining plan which includes dinner is a difficult call - if you are there for a few nights then perhaps, but longer stays you will find the menus a bit tiresome. Do not expect fabulous fish like Hawaii - such a shock to us considering the bounty and beauty of the ocean all around (fish could be either overcooked or completely raw - be very careful to read the menu as completely and totally raw is very common - on the one hand, it is what Poisson Cru (ceviche is close cousin) is (and it's excellent) but a full plate of completely raw raw fish not prepared like ceviche can be quite a shock when it comes to the table). So for longer stays you might consider dinners on the main island - the shuttle and the process - because it IS a process - is fairly smooth and, I think, worth it - but, again, you need to understand the timing and the process in order to have a worry-free dinner experience -0 CAN be done but thakes a bit of planning and the info can be confusing between the shuttle people and the concerivtge and the restaurants, etc. - - the shuttle does not land near the restaurants so there are a few steps. Restaurant and bar personnel - some good, some not. Some very rushed. Lots of "crunch time" issues - service showed the strains when the place was busy. Horrible, horrible, horrible knowledge of the (very few really) wines on the menu - partially a language barrier but if the menu has English shouldn't the staff know which of the reds is a Pinot vs. a Merlot, etc.? Can't be sure but using French didn't seem to help with the wine description barrier. If you ordered anything for beverages that was not among the common wines available by the glass then those beverages took a very long time to come (I got the feeling they had to send over the pool bar - not close to the restaurants - or at least to the wine bar, where wine knowledge is better but drink knowledge is poor). None in our group liked the cocktails anywhere on the property - do not expect the common decent frozen mudslide type drinks which doesn't mean we ignorantly expect a Caribbean type drink in the South Pacific but if they tell you they can do it then they should be able to do it, but in fact they really only know drinks that are on their menu and those aren't great. On the other hand, if you stick to European standards like Aperol Spritz or Negroni, etc. then you can't go wrong. None of the four of us were in love with the food at either Otemanu or Miki-Miki and especially disappointed in the fish choices. We were SO shocked that fish was not prepared properly - some choices way too raw and others like the Mahi-Mahi and swordfish typically overcooked (some was actually steamed - horrible). We had two buffets while there and both were so mediocre I can't tell you. Yes some items were exceptions but most of the offerings very forgettable or flavorless. On the other hand, the Poerava restaurant was beyond exceptional in every possible way. That staff is amazing. Accommodating without being stuffy. Fantastic food and atmosphere. Amazing.

Apart from the hotel not having us down for collection at the airport which was disappointing and a bit embarrassing the whole experience was superb! We had a garden room which was beautiful and it was lovely to have your own plunge pool. The staff and service was great and everyone was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with a good variety. The restaurants served good quality food and provided reasonable value for money. If you like wine then there is a good variety both by the bottle and by the glass! Would recommend - perfect getaway!
