We recently stayed at the Maison Rouge Strasbourg hotel and liked it. As Marriott Lifetime Platinum member I was upgraded to the Privilege Queen room which was of a decent size for the European hotels. There are few Suites at the hotel but since we visited during the Strasbourg peak time- Christmas markets, all Suites were occupied thus upgrade was only to the Privilege room, which was fine. The hotel is very well upkeep, clean, charming. The room was also very clean, with great Clarins toiletries and modern shower amenities. Everyone we came across at the hotel especially Norman Theiss were very helpful, informative and just nice. Since we came in the morning our room wasn't ready yet, but as soon as they cleaned it they called me to inform that the room is ready and this was way before their official check-in time. The hotel is centrally located in close proximity to all historic sites, shopping and Christmas markets which were the goal of our trip. No matter where you go in the center it will be up to 10 min walk from the hotel. The main train station is 13 min easy walk. The breakfast was outstanding with big variety and exceptional quality. I would definitely stay there again the next time we will be in Strasbourg.

I loved this hotel! Very well appointed, fabulous walk in closet with high end shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (Clarin’s). The bed was amazingly comfortable, heated towel rack! Breakfast was other worldly. Concierge staff very helpful. Waitstaff very professional and friendly! Bonus is that Galleria Lafayette is literally next door! Very centrally located!

“Truly amazing service, location, and room (and breakfast!)”

From the moment we were greeted at check in we knew this was a very special hotel. We simply loved everything about it - the service, the decor, the location, the bed, the furnishings...and yes even the breakfast! Sometimes when a hotel has so many positives it is the little things that make everything special. We arrived late on a rainy night and after being greeted so warmly (and dropping off the bags in our room) they made room for us to dine at the heart of the restaurant's winter wonderland display. I rise long before my dear sweet wife and every morning the restaurant made me coffee in a 'togo' cup before welcoming us both for breakfast. The concierge was incredibly helpful when we needed lunch in the early afternoon and medicine on a Sunday. They offered us a 4PM checkout before our 5PM TGV to Munich. And I know it's a silly thing, but even the built in shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers were placed at the right height for the first time in our experience - you could reach up while taking a bath or down when taking a shower to get what you needed. I simply cannot thing of a single reason as to why you would not stay here if you are visiting Strasbourg. And a thousand reasons why you should.

We had high expectations for our stay and wished it had been as positive across the board for us as it appears to have been for other reviewers. Positives: - Centrally located - can't beat the location; walkable to main sites of the Christmas markets including the cathedral, Petite France, tram stop - Notable customer service: - Efficient and welcoming check-in & check-out process; offered late check out - Helpful concierge who provided a map and advised where we might go - Proactive operator at the spa was helpful in making an immediate booking Considerations: - Room on the first floor - Able to hear street noise (e.g., tram going by in the morning) - Smell from the dining room located down the hallway from our room; personally unappealing to have it be so close to where we were staying - Confusing upgrade offer as a Marriott loyalist - received an email offer 5 days prior to arrival to pay for an upgrade; however, was not offered a complimentary available upgrade upon check-in per our Marriott status - Paid for spa facilities (1 hr) - steam room was not working and no attendant was on duty to assist Overall, we wanted to try to share a balanced review with both the positives and areas we felt could be improved. We had high hopes for our experience and unfortunately didn't feel like it was worth the premium rate during this specific stay.
