“Convenient hotel”

We booked two rooms. 12 & 14. Value for money. One was family room. Rooms are nicely and simply decorated. There is noise from the street if you open the windows for fresh air. We booked two rooms. 12 & 14. Value for money. One was family room. Rooms are nicely and simply decorated. There is noise from the street if you open the windows for fresh air. Just a short walking distance to walking streets and historical center full of shops and restaurants. Breakfast was good with many choices. You can brew tea in a proper tea pot. Receptionist was kind and spoke many languages. Big parking space right next to it. All in all it was a good stay for us but our friends had some problem sleeping because of street noise.

What a lovely hotel. Clean, quiet, comfortable with a staff who were willing to go the extra mile. We cannot thank them enough for making our stay so perfect. All the staff were charming but we must thank Marina especially for her friendliness and for organising a very reasonably priced driver to allow us to explore the dordogne valley and gardens. Plus all the staff spoke English at some level, most fluently, so with our school level French all problems and questions were easily solved.

We thought the hotel photos (nighttime shots) gave a different appearance than the actual. It is one of those hotels that may not impress at first but does grow on you. I was concerned it was too far out of the old town but that was not the case at all. It is a couple of hundred meters outside (two minutes’ walk) the old town. The hotel lobby and breakfast area are not impressive – looks like a tourist group hotel. However, we had a nice room. The hotel is an old structure repurposed. Lots of old beams were preserved in the room (had to watch my head). We are a family of three, so we had two large bedrooms with a bathroom in between. We had warm days but the AC worked very well. The rooms were clean, modern, spacious. There is a small refrigerator, two TVs, the beds are comfortable. What is unusual is parking. The hotel sits on a public metered parking lot (lots of spaces but seemed full most of the time). I was told that we can use the lot but will need to pay the meter each morning. Alternatively, the hotel has a row of small garages a couple of blocks away. This is a stand-alone older structure that has about 14 individual garages with locking metal doors. Was a tight squeeze for our SUV. I would recommend this hotel although it is not atmospheric, it is situated in a location to easily see the town on foot and to drive to nearby sites.

The Hotel Montaigne, just south of the ring road around the historic center, has apparently been thoroughly renovated fairly recently. Everything in our room felt new and nice. The bathroom was very modern but there was a severe lack of space to put our toiletries. The hotel’s sunroom was a pleasant space to bring a picnic lunch (easy to find the makings of a wonderful lunch at the stalls on market day) especially on a rainy day. The breakfast room had a nice variety of typical breakfast food. The front desk staff were always polite and friendly.
