The location of the hotel is fabulous - next to a church and very central for all Lille has to offer. I loved the feeling of the hotel with a 1930s vibe and the old paintings & lift. The room was small and sparsely furnished - a bed and small table with small bedside tables. Our bathroom was lovely and looked recently decorated and refurbished with a hairdryer. The wardrobe was very small and clothes would fall down if hung up! Had to stand our suitcases near the window as space very limited. Sadly, no tea or coffee making facilities. The blackout blind was great. Nice view of church. Our other friend had a much larger sleeping area and bed but a bathroom split with a really small shower and separate toilet. Some staff could do with a lesson in customer service as seemed quite rude. The male members of staff were the friendliest. Would I visit again - yes for the location & scary lift!

A strange hotel experience. Lovely room but no proper curtains, just a see through net one. Awoken by the light early. No privacy in the bathroom, no blinds, no frosted glass. The people in the room above are free to observe you doing bodily functions if they wish. The shower is an 80’s style attachment that is wound aroma the taps everyday, nothing to hang it off. And finally Smsrt TV that isn’t connected to WI-FI so you have a choice of French only channels. Man on reception this morning quite abrupt.

We stayed at the Hôtel Brueghel as our usual Lille hotel was fully booked. The location is convenient for the old town and both train stations. The room we stayed in was very basic and extremely dated. There was no design or ambience to the room. It felt more like a hostel. There weren't enough power sockets and there was actually an old power board on the floor to compensate. The breakfast offering was basic, and the breakfast room was very cramped and lacking air. It felt uncomfortable being that close to so many people. The choice of food was limited - even for a continental breakfast. I wouldn't stay here again because 1) the water temperature in the shower was not constant - it would go from hot to cold then back to hot, 2) you have to keep on logging in to the internet, 3) you cannot connect to a VPN - as soon as you try the internet disconnects. We usually stay at the Boa Hotel (formerly, Hotel Up). They are both about the same price, but the Boa Hotel is far superior in all ways.
