When visiting Helsinki, I usually stay at other IHG hotels. But for my May 2024 trip, I decided to try the Crown Plaza hotel. I can't believe it took me so long; what a great hotel! Yes, it is off the beaten path, in a residential neighborhood a little outside the city center. But it makes up for it in the rooms and amenities. I stayed here for one night and was upgraded to a King room on the floor with the lounge. The lounge came in handy since it was May 1st and not many places available to get something to eat. I found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed my stay so much that I'm staying again in a few weeks!

Since it was renovated few years back, this hotel has become my favourite in town, the rooms are very nice, it is located 15mns walking from the train station, dotted with a super large gym and a 15m lap pool. Receptionist was friendly and professional, I was upgraded and set as per my profile in the quiet zone on the back, on the 9th floor, where the lounge is. The room was circa 20sqm, very bright, modern, but AC wasn't working and they set a temp fan in the room. Cleanliness was the big issue, a pack of foreign hair clearly visible in the bathroom at check in ,was left on the floor near the shower stayed there 2 days till I cleaned it myself, beuuurk. I found as well some rubbish laying on the table near the coffee machine when I entered. For me both issues are the sign of very weak house keeping rules, and it is unacceptable in such hotels ! The room had both a desk and a living rom table, with a laying sofa and a chair in that space. A nespresso machine was as well present with plenty capsules but no milk. Bathrobes and sleepers were there without asking for them. The room was extremely calm and silent. If it wasn't for the Cleanliness issues this would rank much better for me. The lounge is neat and has a 18 to 20h happy hour with enough food for diner, and drinks including wines. They serve as well a light buffet breakfast there too. Quality was OK to good, of a respectable level all in all. The coffee is a bit sour though but acceptable. The restaurant has a limited and classic card, I tried their burger and it was cooked to my liking, I did find the prices to be expensive even for Helsinki. All in all a very good and modern option, by the lake and the park, but still in the center of Helsinki, definitely a much better location for summer stays than the center itself. Hope they put more effort on cleaning by the time I come again.

I stayed here for two nights in May 2024 for business. The rooms are spacious, and the hotel offers guests access to a connected and very large gym, but the pluses end there. The decor throughout common areas and guest rooms is stuck somewhere in the 1990s, with some wear-and-tear showing up especially in common areas. My room had wall to wall carpet and a mattress that was a little too springy and felt as if it was also dated. The curtains didn't quite close out the daylight, which was an issue early in the morning in my south-facing room. Finally, from my perspective, the hotel is located just a little too far from areas of potential business or personal interest, such as the embassy district, government offices, the esplanade, the harbor, etc. I do not plan on staying here again.
