I often find that when going back to places after a great experience, second time around is not as good. That was not the case here and with 7 years between visits, my second visit was just as good as the first. This is a resort for divers, in fact all of Taveuni probably is as there is not a lot to do on land. If you are not a diver, stick to the bigger Fiji islands. Diving was mainly on the spectacular Rainbow Reef, each day the dive guides choose the site based on the weather, sea conditions and the tide. Over 5 days of diving, most had an element of gentle drift diving, with no fierce currents to worry about. 18-20 metre visibility on every dive. We only dived one site twice, sand that was the world famous white wall, so all divers were happy with that. On land, the food and service is excellent, rooms of a high standard, and the staff are great. From your arrival to departure, all the staff you interact with know your name without fail. A highlight was Fiji night, which involved meats cooked in the traditional way in an earth oven, kava ceremony, singing and dancing with the staff. It felt like a group of friends having a party and we had been invited along. I will go back again, hopefully not another 7 years before my next visit.

“Fantastic Experience in Paradise”

Ten of us just returned from a 10-day visit to Paradise Taveuni. We are scuba divers who normally dive the Caribbean. Fiji was definitely a big step up as the reefs were pristine and vibrant with massive amounts of healthy coral. I own a scuba business and was impressed with the organization, safety, briefings, and overall operation of the dive side of the business run by co-owner Allan, dive shop manager and dive leader Manasa, boat captain Mike, Uli, and the rest of the dive staff. En route to the dive sites we were fortunate to see manta rays, pilot whales and dolphins. Dive leader Uli even dove in and using one of our cameras, took up close video of manta rays feeding on the surface. Now let me comment on the resort side of the business run by co-owner Terri and her wonderful staff. The resort is a true tropical paradise and one is warmly welcomed upon arrival and throughout your stay. The management team is led by co-managers Flo and Kim and although I can't name all the wonderful staff, including those working in the background, Eta, MeiMei (spelling?), Soni, and Naomi took great care of us. Fijians are truly the warmest and friendliest people I have ever met. They sang and danced for us and shared their unique culture with us on multiple occasions including Fiji night dinner and Kava celebration. The food was excellent and included local, Indian, and American cuisine with local produce from their onsite farm served at every meal. Farm fresh eggs from their hardworking hens were served at breakfast and the onsite bakery produced delicious bread, sweet rolls, and other baked goods. I'm not a big fish eater but I enjoyed the locally caught tuna. At breakfast we were presented with lunch and dinner menus to pre-order our meals and selection was varied, and I truly enjoyed every meal. The cottages (bures) were clean and well appointed. We enjoyed the private outdoor shower and we never saw our housekeeper who did a great job in refreshing our bure each day. Internet service was spotty and somewhat frustrating but remember this is a remote island. Don't let this spoil an otherwise unforgettable trip. I understand that improvements are in the works, possibly with StarLink satellite service. Our group did the waterfall and village excursions, and these gave us insight into both local culture and the natural beauty of Taveuni island. We also stopped at a local market and visited the international dateline. In summary, Paradise Taveuni was a fantastic experience and we are thinking about returning in 2025.
