This hotel has a brilliant location towards the top end of Wenceslas Square not far from the Národní Muzeum. A leisurely 5 minute stroll downhill will land you in Old Town. It's quite a compact hotel but you never feel cramped. Our room was spotlessly tidy and overlooked the square itself and, whilst it can get busy outside, the room was quiet. It classes itself as a 'boutique hotel' and I think that description is fitting. The adjoining Fat Cat bar and restaurant is fantastic, too. We are already planning a return trip!

“Good value hotel with a great location”

We wanted to visit Prague and the hotel choices seemed similar, but with a range of prices. In the end we saw the Jalta on Michael Portillo's TV show, so plumped for it. It is mid-range for price, and I'd say it's well worth it. 4 nights with flights for £900 for 2 is decent. Reception is small, the staff were all super friendly. There's a 490czk refundable deposit to pay on arrival. Which becomes 1000czk if paid in cash, so use a card. This is all clearly explained by the staff. Our room, 705 looked smaller than the photos, but it's a hotel room, I never plan on living it for my stay. We had a balcony overlooking Wenceslas Square, there's major works going on to build a new metro station at Museum, so the view isn't as pretty as usual. The amenities were fine, great l'Occitane toiletries are provided and are lush. The bathroom looks lovely, but it's an over gath type shower that is a touch cramped. However, I'm a big bloke and am 6'2 and I had no issues with it at all. There's plenty of cupboard and hanging space. Robes and slippers are provided, there's a safe and a hair dryer too. The TV gets some English (mainly news) channels, but that's not an issue for us. The bed is huge, we had to stretch to hold hands! Yes, it's very firm, but I like that. Outside noise really wasn't an issue at all. A few bangs of machinery around 7am, but really nothing to prevent sleep. One night we could hear another guest's TV, but that was it. Breakfast is perfectly fine with a really good selection and is provided by the Fat Cat. Yes, the mini bar prices are insane. 80(or was it 70?) czk for a 500ml water is beyond a joke! Then again who on Earth pays hotel mini bar prices? There's a Tesco or Lidl within ten minutes walk, 1.5l water in Tesco was under 20czk. So be sensible, or moan as many on Tripadvisor are want to do! It's your choice. You can get some cans of Czech beer in Tesco for 24czk per can, about 140czk for 6 (even though they're pre-packed and look like it's 24czk for 6!). Just use Google maps to find it. I think the word boutique leads to some of the expectation based complaints. In the UK boutique hotels maybe have 20 rooms or less, and are seen as expensive luxury. The Jalta is a 1930s communist built hotel that was used to spy on foreign nationals and locals. Go with an open mind and you'll enjoy it.

Lovely hotel right on Wensleslas square.....we specifically booked this one as we came for the Christmas markets only to find Wensleslas square was having major tram works done and there was no market this year.....however a 5/10 minute walk and your in the old town and square. The hotel is clean , well decorated, beds are comfy, bathrooms amazing....we had a balcony so was able to let in some fresh air ( despite it being minus 1) the room was extremely hot ! You don't really see the staff except when checking in ...they don't even speak when you are in and out during the day Breakfast was ok....based downstairs in fat cats , along with the public having breakfast Would of preferred a separate eating place. We did eat in fat cats downstairs and the food is amazing , huge portions and priced similar to uk Prague isn't as cheap as people think Main areas are pricey Side roads and old town are a little cheaper The ice bar is a must visit and the robot bar upstairs Prague castle is a mission of a walk , hundreds of steps then a big long queue ( almost 3 hours ) so we never made it Lots of weed bars and its well priced....its legal here but you don't see it being smoked in the streets nor do you smell it. Word of warning...its strong stuff.....we lost 6 hours after smoking one hahah Prague is lovely and the people are great.....but it's expensive

Was really looking forward to this stay after having seen it on TV. Upon arrival, we were originally offered a room on the 5th floor but I'm a light sleeper and have a natural skill of ending up with people who move around like elephants above me, so I asked if a top floor room was available and the receptionist kindly changed us up to the top floor. It was still a still a Superior Double balcony room, but the balcony prevents you seeing much other than what is straight in front of you. The room itself was pleasant enough, but still very dated. The kettle was like toy kettle and I was astounded to find they charged for a bottle of water - normally I'd expect the 1st bottles to be complimentary like they are at just about every other hotel I've stayed at, particularly boutique hotels. The bed was somewhat firm, but comfortable enough for a weeks stay. TV was a decent enough Samsung with HDMI ports which worked. Bathroom was 'cosy' and the over bath shower was somewhat 'snug.' Housekeeping wasn't the best. Had to physically remove the sheets and dump them on the floor if you wanted them changing. Decaf coffee wasn't replaced so had to ask for it - then got given a months worth of sachets. Breakfast in the Fat Cat restaurant was good with a wide variety of choice, but you had to time it right to get hot bacon or scrambled eggs. Positives were the staff (really friendly) and the location (although 1/2 of the square is currently a construction site) Negatives - overpriced mediocre hotel, and to charge staying guests to visit the museum in the basement, well, that's just taking the proverbial and fleecing everything possible from your guests. We're back in 5 weeks for another short visit and we've booked elsewhere due to poor overall guest experience.
