I had read some of the negative reviews of this hotel, but allay your fears; this place was fantastic. Located within a couple hundred feet of the Old Town Square in a completely renovated medieval market and stables, the Iron Gate was not only beautiful, but super convenient. Our room was decorated with period appropriate furnishings, but was thoroughly modernized and kept squeaky clean by the housekeeping staff. Our king bed was VERY comfortable. One criticism I had read was about noise--NO hotel near the Old Town Square is going to have rooms high enough to avoid crowd noise, period, end of story. The one recommendation I'd make is that there are charming-looking rooms that were old stables situated along the courtyard (with their Deer restaurant--also very good)--I can see how these rooms can be noisy because of the diners/bar patrons, and the noise from wheels along the cobblestone (ubiquitous in Prague) passageways, so we requested an upper floor room. You will still hear all the [festive] people on the many narrow streets around the hotel, so keep that in mind. We were so tired every evening from walking, that the noise didn't bother us or keep us from sleeping. Another recurring complaint I had read about was the fare-included breakfast. The included breakfast was FANTASTIC, as were the wait staff (special mention to SARA). The breakfast room is what appears to have been a sunken vaulted storage room just past the kitchen. It was clean and tastefully decorated, like a modern wine cellar. The breakfast spread was everything you could want: fried/scrambled [fresh] eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans (for you UK folks) mini pancakes, porridge, yogurt, assorted fresh fruits/cheeses/cold cuts, a dozen different pastries and fresh/toasted breads...and it was all delicious, preparing us well for a day of touring. If crowded, in addition to the cellar, you are welcome to sit in the main restaurant, but you're just farther away from the buffet. If you're staying at the Iron Gate, get the breakfast option; it's delicious, filling, and so convenient. The staff at the Iron Gate were tremendous and very attentive to making sure everything we needed was provided. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable, and modernized; the buffet breakfast was delicious and expansive; the attentive staff on point; and the location could not have been better for walking and touring the Old Town area. We felt the cost was extremely reasonable as well; again, we had such a great stay.
