I’m 7 months behind writing this review, but had to put in to words, our experience here, and give the hotel the credit it deserves. How this hotel is 11th on the list for Prague surprises me. This was, by far, one of the most beautiful properties we’ve stayed in, and we travel a lot. From the arrival and check in to the driver taking us back to the airport, the quality was impeccable. The breakfast each morning was delicious, the room extremely spacious, the entire place impeccably clean and the views, breathtaking. Situated right underneath the castle and only a short walk to Charles bridge, we found the location to be fantastic. It was quiet and very safe. While many opt to stay in central Prague, it’s a short walk across the bridge and I found this area to be much more charming, and quieter, offering a good and restful night sleep. Note: You cannot drive a car up to the entrance. However, this only added to the charm (and exceptional privacy) of the hotel for us. It’s a relatively short walk from set-down point if arriving by taxi. The only criticism I have is that I found a cheaper rate through an online booking agent. I contacted the hotel directly to ask if they would provide the same rate, because I know they would have to pay commission. The lady who replied was rather abrupt in her reply and said no, that the rate quoted was the price. So, we booked through an agent. Shame, but overall, didn’t detract from the service or the quality of the hotel (we just got a much better rate :) :)). We would go back to Prague just to stay here again! An absolute favourite hotel for us! Thank you, Hotel Golden Well.

“Outstanding in all ways”

We like hotels that are small, quiet, away from busy areas and in unique buildings and this one excels in all of these. We like hotels that are small, quiet, away from busy areas and in unique buildings and this one excels in all of these. Prague is now a very busy tourist destination, and this hotel is in Mala Strana, which is a quiet neighbourhood across the river from Old Town, yet within easy walking distance even for senior folk like us. The streets and pavements in central Prague are all cobbled so sensible footwear is a must. The hotel is a 5 minute stroll from a main square for trams in one direction, and the same distance from an underground station in the other direction. Public transport is easy to understand and use and the ticket machines change from Czech to English, French or German at the touch of a button. We stayed in a grand deluxe room to give us a bit more space as we were staying for a week. It was extremely comfortable, spotless, large enough that our suitcases were out of the way, and we appreciated the coffee maker. Housekeeping paid a second visit to the room when we were out for the evening, restoring order after the evening shower so the room was immaculate once more, and leaving a tiny sliver of cake (rather than a chocolate) beside the turned down bed. A very nice touch. The breakfast provided was lovely, and all the cooked-to-order dishes were delicious. The staff were outstanding; every member we encountered was smiling, cheerful and helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. I cannot remember ever staying in a nicer hotel than The Golden Well.

Our stay in Prague came at the end of a 3-week-long trip. We were tired, and eventually, both a little sick with colds. Because of that, we spent more time than expected in our hotel. But what a lovely hotel it was! We arrived in the late afternoon, after a hot, dusty 4-hour drive. The hotel was cool and we were offered a seat while we checked in, a glass of sparkling wine and a cold towel. Ah! So civilized! The young woman at the front desk was pleasant, taking the time to mark a map with all the places we should see (which, in the end, we saw little of — we’ll go back to Prague another time!) She pointed out a delightful terrace behind the front desk — where we ended up spending many an hour, quietly reading — and then showed us the lounge, mentioning it offered complimentary wine and food from 4 to 6. That was a perfect, unexpected surprise. We checked out our room first. It was charming, and not in that “cute but tiny” way. We had booked a Grand Deluxe Double, which was very spacious, attractively decorated and had an American-sized King bed — much bigger than most “Kings” in Europe. There were views over the rooftops of the Castle district. I was impressed that it had lots of seating (3 chairs!) and a large bathroom. That reminds me of the only niggle I have about the hotel’s facilities. The shower is over a huge, high-sided, flat-bottomed tub. I have very bad knees, so I always prefer a walk-in shower to clambering over the side of a tub. However, because of the unusually high sides and flat bottom, I actually found it not too bad getting in and out. And the rain shower itself is powerful, in the best way. After a quick shower and change of clothes, we went to the lounge and enjoyed a glass of wine, some olives, salami, cheese, and a nibble of one of the small desserts. We had an enjoyable chat with some other guests, including one couple who seemed inclined to move in permanently! We saw their point. The service is superb. For example, after our first night, while the bed was super comfortable, we found the fluffy duvet too warm (despite the excellent air conditioning) and asked if we could have a lighter bedcover. Within a hour, it had been replaced with a cover of the perfect weight. They also have a pillow menu. This is a dreamy hotel, literally. I haven’t even mentioned the included breakfast, which is stellar. Not only is there a delicious buffet, but you can also order freshly prepared items from a menu at no extra charge. Avocado toast that is beautifully piped avocado puree on crustless brioche? Yes please. The service in the restaurant was unobtrusive and prompt. I regret that we didn’t eat dinner in the restaurant. I think it has a Michelin star? In any case, we were told by a local food expert that the chef is a rising star. The Golden Well is one of our new favorite hotels in the world, and we look forward to returning!

A perfect hotel in an ideal location with amazing views. I loved everything about it. Staff are charming, rooms are very comfortable and well equipped, food is fabulous and the historic building is beautiful. What makes the hotel so special are the extra thoughtful touches like a welcome treat on arrival, fresh fruit in the room every day, the little homemade cake by your bed at night, personal IPad, complimentary drinks and snacks in the lounge. This hotel really understands how to look after guests which is why it richly deserves such high ratings.
