This is the hotel that I always stay in while in Shanghai. It's reasonably nice on the inside, but could use an update. The beds are also on the firm side. However, the reason I stay here is the location. It's around everything I want to go to and can usually walk there. There are many western-chained restaurants (Taco Bell, White Castle) that you won't find anywhere else in China. Additionally, there are many other cuisines as well. They have a breakfast and it's ok, but you can go to another place in the area very easily and the subway and West Nanjing street are very close by. I will continue to stay here.

Overall, this is a great hotel. If you are a smoker, it is not. Positives of the hotel: Good price (the smoking fee if you get caught is about the cost of the room 300 rmb), Very good breakfast, clean rooms, comfortable beds, quiet, close to great shopping and all kinds of restaurants, across the street from Subway Line 2, upper scale amenities like robes and an umbrella in the room, plenty of hot water in the bath. Negatives. The bathtub and the bathroom door needed refurbishing (room 801). Non-smoking rooms only, interior rooms have no windows (cheapest rooms) you are in a box, not very friendly staff. You can not adjust the temperature in the room. You can only select low, medium, and high fan in the room. I had to leave the window open to balance the temperature to be comfortable. Being a smoker, I would choose another location. If you are a non-smoker, I think you will find this hotel to be acceptable for your needs.

I stayed in this hotel once a month for four or five years, the only reason for the change is that this year I am more in Beijing than Shanghai when visiting China BUT I will stay here anytime that I am in Shanghai. Shanghai hotels are very expensive so understand that the price of this hotel reflects the fact that it is very Chinese in style. i.e. Beds are "firm" to hard, the reception staff speak some English but are not fluent and most Westerners would suggest that it needs a tidy up Generally the rooms are a decent size - there are a few notable exceptions - and easy to work in. As noted in other reviews, the location is amazing. Nanjing West Road is a high price retail area and the hotel is right on top of the subway (line 2 and now two other lines) so you can get there from both airports without a taxi if you wish. The area is full of energy and restaurants of a wide variety of styles and quality Ask for a router when checking in as the primary internet is cabled. The restaurant does a reasonable breakfast but if you prefer there are several places nearby - Twosome, Wagas etc. where you can buy a reasonably priced western style breakfast

“Only Location”

Hotel is in need of refurbishment. Bathroom small old carpet and drapes, musty smell.the reception staff speak some English but are not fluent and not helpful to find nearby location,only location is amazing. Nanjing West Road is a high price retail area

Room is so-so. But considering its price, it is OK. Our room smells cigarette which is negative. Location is great. Outside is pedestrian walk with many restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. Room is so-so. But considering its price, it is OK. Our room smells cigarette which is negative. Location is great. Outside is pedestrian walk with many restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. A few steps away is Chang Garden 99, where many expats congregate, with bars and nice restaurants. Metro Line #2 Nanjing Road West station is a few steps away, and the line leads to Pudong Airport.
