I would have given a one star rating had the hotel not responded to my complaint quickly and made amends for the following two night stay. I found it totally unacceptable that that a hotel has no operator answering my call and I had to go down to the reception twice and requested the receptionist to test the room phone .. the receptionist had no initiative to do this only to find out that the calls were simply not picked up by the concierge guy who said to me angrily that he was over burdened with work as management had cut cost to do away with an operator ! No apologies only justification ! The front desk lady was even more ridiculous, she simply asked me to go reprimand the staff who did not picked up the call. When checked in, there was no explanation of the privileges that is accorded to Executive room guests so when I returned to the hotel after 9 pm, I missed the time to order ironing of my clothes . Standing in front of the noodle stall where a kitchen staff was standing , I was about to order noodles and the staff simply turned away to continue cooking his fried eggs - no explanation nothing as to why he did not take my order ! The hotel management has to beefed up training for staff in terms of communication skills! I have reflected all my comments to George the customer relations manager and I hope he has taken steps to address the service issues ! Aside from staff service issues , the other downside is that the executive room I was staying is really dated and requires a make up ! My friend’s standard room was even more modernise than mine ! The upside - breakfast spread is reasonable although the food average . The club room for executive floor guest is a great place for guests to drop in for light snacks and drinks following our shopping sprees. It has a great view and much needed quietness from the unrelentless noise of the crowd at Nanjing East Walkway ! The greatest point of this hotel is its position . Right at the door step of Nanjing East Road walkway - 15 ins walk to the Bund and 30 mins walk to Yu Yuen ..you can shop till midnight , have late night supper , watch a movie, walk a musical , all within walking distance from the hotel !
