The entry to the building is possible only by swiping the room card. This keeps away unauthorized people. The rooms are well maintained, neat and clean. Although they have a kettle, hot water, AC, room heaters and desk, they do not have a proper wardrobe. However there is an open area with hangers available to hang clothes. The only flip side was the bedsheet smelled of tobacco. There is free wifi in the room which is pretty decent. The walls are not so sound proof. Sometimes you can hear folks in the next room. The restaurant is quite good and they have an elaborate spread for breakfast which covers both Chinese and basic English breakfast (Chinese - Conjee, thousand year eggs, Tea eggs, Steamed buns, Fried wantons, Noodles, Pickles, Salad; English - Bread, Butter, Jam, Sausage, Bacon, Potato Wedges, Tea cake, Cornflakes). So you can definitely start your day with a full stomach. However its the same spread everyday and there is no fruit juice - they serve tang, green tea. The staff at the inn do not speak much English. So an English to Chinese translator app will come in handy. However they are quite pleasant and friendly. There is also a small store within the compound where you get all basic amenities. The location is very convenient - subway, taxi, shops, restaurants etc available at walkable distance (within 1 km).

You get the basics: clean room, shower, wired internet for about $50 USD. (there are rooms that are even cheaper) The beds are firmer than most western hotels. The walls are fairly thin. My room had a fridge and a safe. Breakfast buffet is nothing to write home about and there is a very small exercise area with minimal equipment. Location: everything is by taxi. There is nothing nearby to walk to. The closest subway line would be the guanglan road subway station. Still a minimum fare taxi ride or a ride on a pedi-cab for about 7-10 RMB. If you are attending an event at SNIEC, it is a couple of train stops away. If you just need a place to sleep and do not plan to spend any time at the hotel, this is a good hotel. There is English speaking staff always at the desk.

The hotel is a bit far from the city center and far from the subway station, but if you are visiting Shanghai for an expo (NSIEC), then this hotel may be a good option, just 10 mins by cab. The breakfast is just fine and there's no nearby restaurant. During the day, there is an English-speaking hotel staff that can assist you, but at night, it becomes a challenge as the front desk staff cannot speak in english

“No-smoking Rooms in China”

Here's the rule of thumb for no-smoking rooms in China. A no-smoking room is a room that no one is smoking in NOW! In the two stays at this hotel, my friends and I had to move five times to find a room that only vaguely smelling of cigarettes. Actually, there are NO no-smoking rooms, ever! It doesn't really matter if you reserve a no-smoking room. That only means that you get to complain to the front desk that someone smoked in your room yesterday. And the desk will insist that you have a no-smoking room because no one is smoking in the room at the moment. Hopeless! The room is spartan but functional (other than the above). Fairly quiet for a city of 27 million. Restaurant is decent if you want Chinese breakfast. Maybe people stay here for the price and location, but if I were you, I spend a bit more and go to the Parkyard.
