Nice hotel complex, quiet since far from traffic of Maoming Road. Comfortable room, clean environment, friendly service, nice breakfast, gym available in the complex, currency exchange by ATM, very affordable price for European guests.

Finally I booked a room named "Garden View" that was not actually facing a wall. The Hotel was built in the 30s, it's extremely charming for those who enjoys heritage building. It's clean, well maintained, an (other than myself and the receptionist) nothing is newer than the 80s' - hair dryer, phone, everything is old but clean and well functioning. The Hotel faces a nice garden and is in the leafy side of JingAn, where small narrow streets would make you feel like in Paris if it wasn't for locals expelling their surplus saliva and Costa Coffe shops. Luckily the european feel was supported by nice cafes and restaurants - it's definitely an area that won't make you feel too much you actually are in China. The hotel is well connected with buses and subway, the Bund being about 20 minutes away by bus.

“Great location, just not great service”

Great location close to temple and downtown. Was there two days with no hot water in the shower. Did not try the breakfast or other services as not included. easy access to subway and jijang temple from this location.

While the hotel itself was more than adequate, access was a bit difficult. First, the people were nice; although, only a few spoke enough English to be helpful. My room was fine: good A/C in 100 degree heat, a comfortable bed, quiet and dark at night, and the customary "dental kit" in the bathroom.… more

While the hotel itself was more than adequate, access was a bit difficult. First, the people were nice; although, only a few spoke enough English to be helpful. My room was fine: good A/C in 100 degree heat, a comfortable bed, quiet and dark at night, and the customary "dental kit" in the bathroom.The breakfast buffet was decent-good western and Chinese choices; although, no black coffee to be found. What made it difficult was the 20-minute walk to the metro. Ordinarily, that would be acceptable except, for this visit, the temperatures were consistently above 40 degrees C, and taxis, inexplicably, were hard to find. On my last day, I went downstairs 2 hours before my train's scheduled departure. The desk could not or would not make advance arrangements for a taxi to the train station (although they would for the airport).A clerk was frantically (and intermittently) trying to get a taxi for me, and I was about to start the walk to the metro station when she beckoned me to the street. There, two streets over, with a hundred vehicles in between, was a taxi that, apparently, would or could not get any closer. I waded through the traffic with my bag, and we got to the train station with minutes to spare. With thousands of hotels in this gargantuan city, next time I'll pick one that's a bit more convenient to inter-city transportation.
