Travel during Covid hasn't been easy. In particular with the requirement of 14 days quarantine when I arrived in Shanghai from the States. After checked into this hotel, I used the business lounge for most of my needs. The warm welcome by the office manager Lulu Jiang made me feel at home. She helped me with my room arrangement that extended my stay for additional 7 nights in this hotel. A total of 3 weeks stay was convenient and comfortable.

“Good service staff but some items needs a makeover.”

My wife and I stayed for about 3 weeks in January 2021. The location is as central as you can get. There’s a subway 5 minutes away and shopping centers all around. My wife and I stayed for about 3 weeks in January 2021. The location is as central as you can get. There’s a subway 5 minutes away and shopping centers all around. The staff is really great and most speak English. The prices are also very reasonable. There are more positives but a few negatives as well. The rooms are small but nicely furnished and comfortable. Electrical outlets are few so having those 1 into 3 plugs will help a lot if you have multiple devices. The TV’s are flat screen but 1st generation - old. If you can secure the “Executive suites” those have a separate living room and make all the difference in the world. Breakfast is not bad. Besides a salad bar however, there’s not too many veggies offered like broccoli, cauliflower or other healthy options that are not fried or swimming in oil. Service is consistently attentive and with a smile. The gym and pool are decent. While the water temperatures were ok and the water clear, there was an obvious sign of poor maintenance in that there are at least 150 - 200 little tiles missing from the pool floor and walls! That’s unacceptable and screams “no long term maintenance “! Also, the sauna was ok but the floor boards need to be changed. I don’t believe they ever were as they are black. It’s not necessary to change all the wood, just the floorboards. It’s not expensive, but must be done. The gym is neither tiny nor large. The machines are fine and in good working order. If you splurge and can use the Executive Lounge , then it’ll make your stay that much nicer. It’s very spacious and serves hot food and beverages during happy hour (5:30-7:30). Again, consistent great service with use of their computers, printer, scanner etc. Overall, it’s a Big Bang for your buck as other hotels in that area can be far more costly. Howard S.

I returned to this hotel after my first stay way back in 2010. On the positive side, it is good to note that the hotel has not degraded too much since then. But on the negative side, they have also not improved on the service levels - especially when it comes to welcoming and managing foreign guests who don't speak Mandarin. This was a big sore point during my stay. And the other big issue was their broken elevators. I spent more time(along with so many other guests) waiting for elevators than spending time in my room! And there was clearly no remorse or apology from the management or staff about this, which was more annoying. LOCATION: Not the best location as it is big away from most key points of interest. But close to Henghan Lu and Jing - an if you are looking to hang around the more tranquil and characterful French Concession area. DINE + DRINK: The 2nd-floor Momo cafe that serves breakfast hasn't changed one bit in the last 13 years! The same boring buffet for breakfast is still running! The lobby-level cafe is an ok palace to have a coffee or a late-night drink ROOM: I stayed in Room 1707, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Random view of the cityscape from a Tiny window; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Good quality toiletries FACILITIES: Very good Gym with a good range of weights and Cardio machines perfect for a full-on workout. One of the highlights of the hotel! SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of my needs with a smile. But they certainly need to be trained more and should be mandated to pick up the English language if they were to welcome foreign guests! HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high-speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out a wide variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, - Pretty much in CHINESE language only!
