We travelled as a family of six with three teenagers and quite enjoyed staying at the hotel as the rooms were pretty modern and spacious and the breakfast was varied and plentiful. There were several restaurants nearby that were quality in food and price and there was westernised fast food outlets next door ( papa johns pizza and Burger King) that was ideal for turning grumpy tired teenagers smile again ( even though it’s only for a short while). Opposite the hotel is a beautiful park that has a lot of activities going on for the local residents including boat rides and fair attractions. Very therapeutic watching the locals doing tai chi. The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the nearest metro station (Gancheng Road) and it takes another 40 minutes to get to the centre which is the biggest downfall as after touring all day the last thing you want to do is travel another hour into the city to travel another hour back. Overall not a bad hotel but wished we were closer to the centre.

We have been traveling China for 10 days and this was our 5th hotel. It was on the outskirts of Shanghai, about 20 min walk from the nearest metro station, which itself is about 30 min ride from the centre. Hotel is huge, rooms are ok, but in need of some tlc, they are quite spacious and tidy. Windows in the room were not cleaned for several years probably, we could hardly see through them. Shower door was not closing properly and water escaped on the floor, had to wipe puddles every time after showering. Tv worked, nut no English speaking channels (this was the same as in other 4 hotels). Did not enjoy the food in the restaurant, it was all cold and prepared well in advance, we even had to complaint about it. Lads on Reception spoke a little English, which was helpful.

The location is not that good -- still a bit of walking distance from the nearest metro station. The room was clean, and the mattress was good (which I liked). 1. However my room had no air conditioning at the beginning -- the thermometer was working but the motor of the air conditioning did not. I was woken up by heat around 5am and called the service and the front desk, who told me that the hotel didn't provide air conditioning after midnight and they would let the manager know about this. The next day after I got back to the hotel in late afternoon, I noticed there was still no air-conditioning. I called the front desk again. This time they sent a repairman, who eventually found it was the problem with the motor above the ceiling. And there was airconditining throughout that night. I am very displeased with the attitude with the front desk -- they should not lie to me. 2. The cleaning of the water taps was not very good and left some safety hazard. My back was scratched and bled by the water scale deposited on the edge of the bathtub tap, and I had to rush to a nearby pharmacy (fortunately there was one only three-minute walk away) to buy some first-aid items.
