This hotel is probably the very best for your money in Shanghai. I cannot say enough good things bout this hotel. It is an older remodeled hotel that has everything a super hotel would offer. The breakfast is the very best I have ever had, anywhere. The breakfast is as good or better than the Peace hotel. The hotel is conveniently located, a short walk across the Waibaidu bridge and you are on the Bund. A short walk (2 blocks) on the Bund and you are across the street from Nanjing Road. Take the subway to the Pudong area, Yu Gardens, and countless shopping. The hotel is clean and comfortable. If you want a treat book the executive room, but you really do not need to. Like shows? The ERA is the best. It is a circus type show. Stroll the French Quarter or Concession Zone, or if you are into it, visit the Jade Buddha Temple. I recommend the Pearl TV Tower, it is the first tall building in Shanghai and offers the best view. If you go up the Jinmao Tower it is so tall you cannot make out anything.

“Goodl location, poor service”

Broadway Mansions is an historic property, dating from 1934. Check-in was relatively smooth, as the receptionist was able to speak basic English. Broadway Mansions is an historic property, dating from 1934. Check-in was relatively smooth, as the receptionist was able to speak basic English. Arrival was during the last weekend of China’s week long national holiday. The large room that overlooked the front of the hotel contained twin beds. The carpet was damaged with that appeared to be cigarette burns and the upholstery of the chair was unacceptably stained. The hotel is floodlit at night and it was unfortunate that the curtains did not meet properly in the centre. The beds were uncomfortably hard. We attempted to eat at the hotel’s Belle Vue buffet restaurant, only to be told that there would be a two hour wait for a table. The only available dining option at the hotel was the Ichibanya Japanese restaurant. The food was reasonably good and was of a high presentation standard. The staff’s command of English was minimal. Room service was ridiculously slow. It took four attempts to order a sandwich. The first three attempts resulted in my being cut off. It then took one hour and 15 minutes for the sandwich to be delivered to the room and immediate cash payment was demanded.
