Amazing stay in Guilin at the Shangri-La. The hotel was clean with friendly staff and the helpdesk was amazing in helping us to arrange the boat trip down the Lijian River which was simply unbelieve scenery. We all had pictures taken at the right moment holding the 20RMB note that has a scene from the river and mountain backdrop.

“Imrovements Needed”

Smoking in the lift and main entrance lobbies by visitors was being tolerated by the hotel. Some non hotel guests or visitors were allowed to sleep on main lobby couches. Quite a ugly sight . No front lobby manager seen in the main entrance at all in my entire.

“Dated property with missing furniture”

Bed is comfortable, but pillows not great and hotel and room are super dated. My room was missing the sofa so we had nowhere to sit except on the bed or desk chair. Bed is comfortable, but pillows not great and hotel and room are super dated. My room was missing the sofa so we had nowhere to sit except on the bed or desk chair. The hardware in the bathroom is good and there's good water pressure in the shower but there's pockets of black mold in a lot of corners of the bathroom. The room has good air conditioning, the hallways have dehumidifiers placed every few meters to try to manage the high humidity. The chandelier in my room was tilted a out 15 degrees to the side which when lying in bed and looking up made it feel like the ceiling was slanted. Ate at Shang Palace for dinner and the food wasn't to my liking, perhaps it was due to us arriving near closing but the quality was visibly lacking. The meat looked and tasted stale and the noodles overcooked. The breakfast buffet is a zoo with pushy bus-tour types. Many buses depart around the same time in the morning, this makes getting a table extremely challenging. The food at breakfast is nothing special, other Shangri-la properties have better breakfast quality and spread. The best part is likely the noodle station. The older Shangri-la properties have a garish decor that hurts contemporary eyes vs their newer properties. This hotel looks impressive on the outside but inside shows its vintage. Heavy on the dark woods, carpets, weird granite colors, and ornate glass chandeliers, it screams early 2000s.

The hotel is huge, although old building but well maintain. Clean and work well. The only problem came from the front staff. When i have a problem with my WeChat Pay, instead of find right unswer, they give wrong solution. Its really wasting time and inconvenience hospitality. Location far from downtown. Suggestion to the Shangri-la Hotel Group. Adding more staff with english speaking capability (five stars standart) and training them to care enough and wholeheartedly to achieve guest satisfaction.
