“Great Lounge service”

This month, I am staying at the W Hotel Guanzhou for three separate weeks. The service at the Lounge is exceptional. Katherine Xu is a true ambassador, already welcoming me via wechat, ensuring the right pillow is on the bed, my drinks are in the room and nothing is left to chance. Really top notch… more

This month, I am staying at the W Hotel Guanzhou for three separate weeks. The service at the Lounge is exceptional. Katherine Xu is a true ambassador, already welcoming me via wechat, ensuring the right pillow is on the bed, my drinks are in the room and nothing is left to chance. Really top notch. The location for getting to and from the Canton Fair is also very convenient. The one thing that needs work is the food, especially the food in the Kitchen Table which is truelly abismal. I avoid the restaurant with guests, but even alone, i would not eat there. The meats the serve of the grill are inedible. This is W unworthy. Hope they can fix this because eating snacks in the lounge for dinner is not enough.

“A more hyped hotel”

This is a good hotel with very friendly english speaking staff. The rooms are small and not value for money compared to other hotels in Guangzhou. The location is good and near the metro station. All other things are good other than room size. Can avoid at this price.

I recently completed a 3 night stay at the W Guangzhou for the Canton Fair. The hotel is quirky in nature, as are all W’s, and it reminded me of the W Hong Kong in some ways. The reception area was chaotic upon arrival, with loads of luggage lying scattered around. The first thing that was apparent to me is that many of the staff struggle with basic English. This was surprising considering it’s a 5-star hotel in an international city like Guangzhou. The reception area has 4 desks and at times it’s difficult to distinguish which desk is for what due to a lack of signage. I was allocated a room on the 7th floor at first and that proved to be a disaster. The room was located directly behind the lifts, and i could hear a droning sound every time the lifts moved. The back garden view of this room was also dreadful. I asked for my room to be changed and was given a much better room on a higher floor, with a view of the Guangzhou skyline. This room was a vast improvement on my previous one and i really loved it. The room was spacious and well-appointed, and you can never go wrong if you have TOTO sanitaryware in your bathrooms. The room rate during the Canton Fair also feels quite extortionate, considering it is three times the normal rate. The buffet breakfast was adequate, and i ate dinner at the Kitchen Table on the 2nd floor one night, and it was pretty average. My overall impression of the W Guangzhou is that the rooms are excellent, but there are major gaps in overall service that require improvement. They are competing with many 5- star hotels in Guangzhou, some who offer better value, and must ensure that their service levels improve.
