This hotel was part of a tour package that we’d purchased overall, The hotel offered comfortable sized rooms with large bathrooms. The bed was a little hard for my liking. Breakfast buffet had a wide variety. We especially enjoyed the handmade noodles and wonton. The only negative was the location. It wasn’t close to the city center. There were a handful of restaurants that we could walk to, but not a lot of options.

“Fine, don't use the "drinking water"”

Stayed here for a few nights in October 2018. The AC did not work in the room. The desk said that since it was interseason, the AC wasn't on. Strangely, the hotel lobby and the hallways were quite cold. The air wasn't too bad, so we were able to open the windows. Had the breakfast buffet, many western choices, they were making fresh eggs and had bread and meat options as well as many asian choices. Room was clean, we stayed on floor 10 which was a non-smoking floor. We didn't smell any smoke in or around our actual room, maybe just the faintest bit floating from another open window. Beds were comfortable but small. I used the "drinking" water to brush my teeth, which turned out to be a horrible mistake. If you are from a western country, don't use anything other than bottled water, which can be bought in the small store downstairs. The KBBQ restaurant on the 4th floor was expensive but very good. Some people spoke English, we were able to make due with google translate. Took about 30 minutes and 90 RMB for a cab ride into the city. If you want to do sightseeing in Beijing and are not taking a tour, this is not a good place to stay.

There is more than one Taishan hotel in Beijing. This is the one that a number of tour companies use. The tour companies should know the problems with this hotel and shouldn't use it. I am not a complainer and things like lack of staff that speak English does not bother me. This hotel is not in a convenient location, but I don't think there is such of a thing in Beijing as the city is very spread out and there is no one central location for attractions. It about a 15 minute drive from the Olympic village during moderate traffic, but that is the only thing close. Everything else takes hours to drive to. The hotel is isolated up its own road without anything convenient to walk to. About a 15 minute walk away there is a mall of restuarants with a Burger King. Inside the hotel are 3 restuarants that are very good but very expensive for Beijing. It was about $40 per person for dinner. They do have a pretty big breakfast buffet with a noodle bar and omelet station. The hotel is fancy with a huge lobby and the rooms look high quality but they are not. Service in this hotel is horrible and can be non existant at times. The air conditioning does not work on most floors. This can be really bad when weather is in the 80s. When we were there, the temperature outside was in the 60s at night, so you could open the window and cool down the room. But, problem is that the air is so poluted at times that you really don't want the windows open. Some rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke even though they were supposed to be non smoking rooms. All rooms had a faint smoke smell, but that was from the pollution and having to keep the windows open because the air conditioning didn't work. Our shower drain was stopped up. They came and looked at it but never fixed it. You need to limit your shower to under 2 minutes so that shower does not overflow. The design of the shower door is also bad. It traps water when you take a shower and then the water spills all over the floor when you open the door. So, the floor gets wet even if the drain isn't clogged. In Asia and Hong Kong, many hotel bathrooms have glass walls so there is no privacy. This one has a big picture window over the bathtub. Fortunately there is a miniblind that you can close. The room is big and has many outlets for charging all your equipment. The bed is moderately comfortable and not as hard as in many Chinese hotels. The TV picture isn't great and there are only a couple of English language channels. The guide in the room shows more English channels but it is incorrect. The service is horrible. Don't bother to call the front desk from your room. They will answer and say they will do something but won't. It took us over 5 calls to get towels sent to our room. You will have a little more success if you go down to the lobby and talk to someone in person.
