“Great location and facilities. Better staff training required!”

The hotel has the feel of an old family favourite that has become a little scruffy round the edges. The location on Lake Joseph is fantastic with a beach and various decks and headlands to sit out. The hotel has the feel of an old family favourite that has become a little scruffy round the edges. The location on Lake Joseph is fantastic with a beach and various decks and headlands to sit out. Also a camp fire in the evenings. The rooms and food were adequate. The service was disappointing, both at reception and in the restaurant. More information should be offered at check-in as to the facilities. You need a car to go anywhere but Port Carling is a pleasant little place to visit.

We arrived a few days ago and were excited to return after 5 year’s hiatus. We checked in and got our room we had before in the robinwood cottage. We had stopped for a late lunch so didn’t have dinner the first night. The next morning, we went for the breakfast buffet. It was well picked over and was quite cool as it sits on burners with some lids. A bit disappointing, but a large function had been there moments before and depleted the food. After a round of golf, we had a dinner in the lounge as we wanted to remain casual l it was the best meal. Hubby had short ribs and I had lobster ravioli. Delicious and well taken care of . Next morning, same issue, large crowds and food not up to par for breakfast. I guess buffets are difficult to keep arm and topped up. Dinner that night was hubby’s birthday…I had sent an email and mentioned it in my reservation, so was expecting some kind of recognition, but alas there was none. Dinner was disappointing but it may have just been our meal choices. I didn’t have the nerve to tell the staff. We went away underwhelmed. Next morning, day of departure. Food was not as bad and was warmer but no real changes over the 3 days. No variety! As for the room we stayed in, it was tired. Needs lots of TLC. Dirty rugs, paint peeling on bathroom cupboards, weather stripping peeling on patio doors, overall in need of some attention…I know it’s a cottage but I expected more. I paid a lot so I expect to get what I pay for. Over 2 grand for 3 nights and food was a grand so all in all, we probably won’t go back. I’m sure we won’t be missed as we felt that the corporate party was more important to the hotel than the lowly guest who decided to book a special couple of days away for a birthday celebration. That’s about it folks, you decide what’s best for you but this was our honest opinion of this resort.
