I’ve just spent a thoroughly enjoyable 4 nights in the Hotel Port Royal in the majestic city of Quebec. From the moment I stepped in through the doors I was made feel most welcome by the cheerful friendly staff.Special shout out to Danick who was always a friendly face at reception. All reception staff indeed were so informative. The rooms were spacious and immaculately clean. Great shower and roomy bathroom. Really great bed and so comfy . Great location with a short walk to all major sights in old Quebec, the Gare de Palais train station and the museum of civilisation which is a stop on the hop on hop off bus. I highly recommend this hotel, A five star experience . Well done to all at Port Royal. Colum (Ireland)

“Luxurious stay at an affordable price”

OMG what a fabulous hotel! It is situated in the oldest part of Old Quebec City, in the “basse ville”, steps away from the waterfront and a short walk from the main Old Quebec hub. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we could not get over the size of the soaker tub! They offer lavender-scented bath salts - a lovely touch. The price to quality ratio is simply unmatched. Highly recommend!

“Our experience in "Building B" of the Hotel Port-Royal”

We booked a 1 bedroom suite which is in the separate building, about 1-2 minutes walk from the main entrance of the hotel and not accessed via the main hotel entrance. (Though you go initially to hotel reception to check in). This building has character, a cute old lift, and a little lounge of its own which is nice. The room was smart and large, with a small kitchenette. We did find this to be badly designed with most of the things like sharp knives and pans kept on shelves above head height and you have to reach for them. However, the kitchenette allowed us to cook in some nights while our toddler was sleeping, so that was a plus. The room had a very sterile, clean appearance with no decoration other than grey paint. There was little to no sound in the room which was great. Sleep quality was good and the beds were very comfy. A cot was provided for our toddler, but we did have to ask for a sheet as one was not provided. Location; fantastic. Right in the heart of the Lower Old Town, with restaurants a-plenty on your doorstep. Building B in fact opens directly up on to Rue St-Paul, which is bustling and fun, yet still the room remains quiet. And if it's raining; the hotel can give you a free ticket for the bus, which is provided by the city tourism board. Housekeeping was mixed; consumables like coffee were not replenished and I had to ask for more at reception after a couple of days. They would come early in the morning and find our DND notice to be on the door, and they would leave a note asking us to contact reception if we wanted cleaning. I think this is because they only have 7 rooms to clean in this building, so they don't come back if you don't leave till before 10 or so. They did however, come back when requested, but sometimes left the bins, and one day broke a glass in our sink. As I say, mixed. We did feel during check in that we were ushered out to the second building too quickly; there was no explanation of breakfast times, the hotel etc. No information is provided in the room either, except for a QR code which allows you to tip housekeeping. For example, the A/C had rather complicated controls and there was no information on this. I've stayed in hotels across the world and never seen anything like it! With no instructions, it was hard to know what to do with it. Similarly, no timing/pricing information for breakfast, the gym etc. was available in the room (a QR code for this would have also been fine for us). Or indeed any information about the helpful ticket for the bus... We found out about this through the city tourism website and it said the hotel was participating (first we had heard of it!). Car park was full when we checked in at 5pm so we took the car to local public parking for the first night. One thing I would add, is that if you are in building B, you have to drag your suitcases up the road to that building - there is no separate car parking for it, or even a place where you can stop a vehicle outside for any period of time, so be prepared for that. I saw several other guests struggling to get cases up the stairs there. Oh, and building B would certainly not be suitable for people with a significant mobility issue due to the steep stairs and heavy door to the building. Even as a 30-something male with a toddler in a stroller, I struggled to get in the door by myself. There is an elevator once inside, however. This has ended up being more detailed than I expected to write, but in summary, there are some excellent points about this hotel, but not all things are excellent and it was the most expensive place we stayed on our two week visit to Canada. Money doesn't get you as far in Quebec City as other places, but we felt for the price paid, there may have been a little more finesse to the offering.

“Meh”

I must have stayed it the worst room. It had none of the brickwork, just white walls and pipes and my room overlooked a gas station. Also, my bed sunk in on one side like people only slept on that side, so I had to sleep diagonally. And if there is a floor above you the walking can be pretty loud. … more

I must have stayed it the worst room. It had none of the brickwork, just white walls and pipes and my room overlooked a gas station. Also, my bed sunk in on one side like people only slept on that side, so I had to sleep diagonally. And if there is a floor above you the walking can be pretty loud. The room was clean though and the staff was super friendly and the location was good.
