I highly recommend Hotel Bonaparte at 447 rue St Francois-Xavier for a stay in Old Montreal! I just spent a few days there with a friend, and we were delighted with it! The room was big and comfy and had a view of the top of Notre-Dame Basillica. The beds were perfect – I like a firm mattress and soft pillows and they scored high with both! The temperature of the room was perfect (it was the 2nd week in Oct so it was starting to cool off outside) and the bathroom had the most fabulous, deep tub just made for soaking. It also had a separate shower if you just wanted to jump in and rinse off from a day of walking around. I think my favorite part was breakfast – they hang a basket outside your door at 7:00 AM that contains a fresh pastry, jam, butter, a fruit bar and juice for each hotel guest. I got spoiled very quickly and have been trying to convince my husband to prepare similar baskets for me in the morning but so far it’s been a no-go! Make a reservation early in the day for the hotel’s restaurant – it books up quickly. We had dinner there twice and were charmed with the food, the spirits and the wait staff. It was truly a treat! And parking was quite close – a parking lot at the end of the block. But the best part of all were the lovely young women working at the reception desk. They were so helpful in recommending places to go and how to get there. We even had to call them once because we got stuck at a boutique about 5 miles away. We tried to call for a cab but because our French is weak, we were unable to request one and give our location, or state where we wanted to go (the hotel). I called the hotel desk for help and a wonderful woman managed to arrange for a cab to come collect us and bring us back to Hotel Bonaparte. She went above and beyond the call of duty! We should mention the lovely lobby, too. It has a wall of rectangular shaped mirrors of different sizes – very clever and great for reflecting the crystal chandeliers which my friend coveted. The neighborhood is great, too. We felt very safe wandering, even at night. And just around the corner on Rue St Paul there is a place called Jimmy’s that has the best omelets ever! And those wonderful bagels that Montreal is famous for. Further down the street were so many places of interest – wonderful gift shops with lots of local artists’ works available. We bought the cleverest handbags and jewelry, beautiful cards and tote bags featuring lovely local artwork for gifts to give back home. We will return to Hotel Bonaparte and happily give it our highest ratings! Enjoy your stay – especially those breakfast baskets and that soaking tub!

“Terrific small hotel”

We stayed here for 2 nights and the location is very central in Old Montreal. The hotel is well maintained and has retained its original features outside whilst being modernised inside. The room and bathroom was clean and nicely decorated with plenty of water pressure in the shower. The basket for breakfast was filled with a tasty pastry and orange juice but I did not really class it as a breakfast more a snack to keep you going until you had something more substantial to eat. I cannot comment on the bar or restaurant as we did not use either.
