**Review Update:** Post-stay update. Unfortunately, things didn't improve much. The hotel is undergoing renovation work in the outdoor areas and some elevators, likely preparing for the summer season. While this is understandable, doing all of it at the same time and at the expense of current guests is unreasonable. Large sections of the outdoor areas and some connecting paths were closed off, making the already maze-like hotel even more frustrating to navigate. The noise from the construction was loud and constant, disrupting the enjoyment of outdoor areas and meals. Additionally, the renovation work was not communicated prior to our stay or mentioned on the website, which was disappointing. On the service side, while the staff were friendly and accommodating, the service was slow, and they missed the mark on small details such as holding doors open or delivering missing items promptly. Many of the staff seemed new. The spa services, while pleasant, were not worth the extra $100 CAD, especially since they were not included in the $39 resort fee. It's unusual for a hotel to charge separately for such services, which added to the disappointment. Despite the hotel's beautiful property and potential, it falls short of what one would expect from a JW Marriott, especially considering the high price point. Initial stay impressions: The location of the JW Marriott Muskoka Resort is stunning, surrounded by Muskoka's natural beauty. The serene environment and picturesque views are definite highlights. We were upgraded from a king room to a one-bedroom suite, which was a nice touch. The room and facilities met JW Marriott's standards, offering comfort and luxury. However, service issues were notable. For example, the fire alarm went off from around 7:30 to 8:30 AM, and there was no communication from the Front Desk, which was unsettling and disrupted our schedule. The resort fee itself felt wasteful as the inclement weather prevented us from using the outdoor activities it presumably covers. Dining was average; the food was good but not exceptional. Various small issues, such as non-functioning elevators after the fire alarm, confusing hotel layout, blocked paths due to construction, and lack of slippers with the robe in the room, further detracted from the experience. Additionally, instances of broken furniture were disappointing. Overall, while the location and accommodations are lovely, service issues and an accumulation of small problems have somewhat diminished the overall experience. Better communication, attention to detail, and a clearer value proposition for the resort fee could significantly enhance the guest experience at JW Marriott Muskoka Resort.
