Excellent hotel! The stuff was very friendly and the rooms were big and clean (We stayed at the suites). Location was great but we had rented a car. Excellent hotel! The stuff was very friendly and the rooms were big and clean (We stayed at the suites). Location was great but we had rented a car. The park next to the hotel is gorgeous and you should definitely visit it while drinking a very hot coffee or tea! Only complain was that the breakfast could be improved as it was very simple and sometimes cold!

Well this was certainly something to remember. Stayed here back in May 2018 for a conference. The hotel is a cold was relic, which I would certainly not book had I had the choice. The lobby is huge and empty, and the rooms spread over numerous floors, sparcely decorated, giving you a cold and dreary feeling. The views over the dark city and sweeping, but the location is not central and did not offer anything to orient yourself. There is a quite good restaurant with local cuisine nearby. Sofia itself is worth a visit, the centre is quite interesting and the immense cathedral extraordinaty - worth a visit for its own shake.

OVERALL: noisy/ gloomy/ cold/ marginally unfriendly/ inexpensive. Will not be my first choice in future. If it’s your only choice - then it’s your only choice. Feels quite soviet-era, which is what it certainly is. It has black-dark corridors that don’t light up til movement is detected. I never got used to coming out of elevator into complete darkness. (They’re fairly quick to come on, but not instantaneous.) Same with exiting the room. Some other soviet-era elements remain too - like a dark-haired barista in the lobby who was inexpressibly hostile. They won’t provide an ironing board or an iron - but they will iron and/or launder things; I’d have preferred self-service - but they turned around some ironing for me fairly quickly - and even delivered it to my room, which they seemed to consider a massive favour. (EUR 2.50 per shirt which seemed a bit steep for Sofia - but there you are.) When first I enquired at the front desk about the iron/ ironing - and then asked how much it was for the hotel to do the ironing for me, I was told “there’s a price list in your room”. My response was that “I’m not in my room - I’m in the lobby.” This kind of exchange is typical for Bulgaria in general - retreating behind a bureaucratic/ non-response. They weren’t particularly unpleasant about it, I mention it because it typifies this hotel. And when it isn’t tiresome, it’s hilarious! PROS: - For me ..location. I wanted to be in the Ishtok neighbourhood. - The bathroom seems to have been remodeled fairly recently. - Bathroom has a heated towel-rail! - Price. CONS: - noisy/ cold/ marginally unfriendly. - It’s not right downtown. (It’s a 6 or 7Lv taxi ride from downtown if there’s no traffic.) - The beds are hard; the room carpet is coarse and would be well suited to an entrance mat at a ..well, somewhere requiring an indestructible doormat. - The bed coverings are kinda thin. (I wasn’t cold but I didn’t feel like I was warm either.) - Noisy. Three of my six nights, there were persistently noisy guests in the hallway and in other rooms on my floor. Perhaps this speaks to the kinds of people staying here as much as to the construction, though noise insulation does seem to have been an afterthought. - The supplemental in-room heater didn’t work. The room was always borderline cold. - The room wasn’t really very clean. I kept coming across a previous occupant’s long hair in the bedroom. And pubic hair in the bathroom. Lovely.
