“Magical is the word ”
I don't like to give less stars for things that can be corrected, moulded , redone, reimagined ..... for all that is not right here @ the Pestana, there is much that is great ... I don't like to give less stars for things that can be corrected, moulded , redone, reimagined ..... for all that is not right here @ the Pestana, there is much that is great ... Pestaña convento is one the most beautiful historical sites one can stay in... true magic for what it is ... where it is .... Hundreds of years of history.... of mystery...beauty on every step ...each corner seeped in stories of days gone by...what more can one ask for? The sea breeze from Bay of all Saints, the lovely lonely mango tree in the outer sanctum ,the deep green pond in the inner sanctum...a meter thick walls, verandas with lazy chairs ....they invite one to relax..just close the eyes and imagine the centuries floating away ....the cobbled street in front must have witnessed moments of religious persecution, of heart breaking slave trade and the grand hour of dictatorship...while those moments are all gone, the street and Pestana have withstood the test of time .. to tell us all of what they have seen...they have morphed into 'time'...they are the time ! just close ur eyes and contemplate ..... P.s. the food and service are non spectacular ...but then who cares ...it's the environs that matter !

“disappointing”
Unusual place in the historic district. This is the highlight of our experience. However, the place lacks maintenance. The rooms are very dark and a bit grim. The bedding is not good and lacks hygiene for the duvet, pillows and sheets.

Desapointed with the lack of respect of the hotel management of having a party at the hotel with incredible loud music, and booking the rooms next To the party without letting the guest know. My room Window overlooked the pátio where the wedding party was taking place. I paid a very very expensive rate at booking for the room To have that happen. I thought it was outrageous and unnaceptable.

The breakfast does not correspond at all to the standard of a 5 star hotel. The service from all employees was exceptional. Good location for walking tourism, bad for those who are on a business trip and need to move around the city, especially with their own vehicle. Most of the surrounding streets are only allowed to be accessed by taxis and there is no variety of shops and good restaurants nearby. Access to the hotel gets even more complicated at night, with the streets full of tourists. The hotel is in a very old historic building, it's beautiful, the interior spaces are gorgeous. The bedroom is well structured, but the furniture is old and there is a strong odor in the furniture and curtain, including the bed and trousseau. The hot water did not work after 23h. The restaurant has elaborate dishes, but with few options and little flexibility. The value of mineral water at the bedroom is expensive, R$4.00 for a 200ml glass and R$6.00 for a 300ml bottle. A high price is spent just for drinking water.

The hotel is accommodated in a colonial era convent. The two cloisters of the convent are havens of calm in the tropical bustle of Salvador. The hotel pool is surrounded by lush palms, mango trees and the like which are full of humming birds and marmosets. The hotel is within and well located for exploring the historic centre of Salvador. Everything within the historic centre is easily walkable from the hotel for anyone unafraid of the odd steep hill. Staff were uniformly helpful, polite and attentive. Breakfast was a good buffet. The hotel itself could do with a little renovation: some new furnishings, redecoration, that sort of thing. A policy decision seems to have been taken not to install any air conditioning in any public spaces in the hotel. If you like the tropical heat and humidity, that will not be a problem. If, however, you like to retreat occasionally from the tropical heat and humidity to a refrigerated lounge or bar, then you will not find those spaces here.
