“Average hotel, but good location”

We stayed for 3 nights at the Lider Hotel in June 2016. We arrived after 10pm and I will say the neighborhood was shut up tight and looked a little ominous on the cab ride. But once inside the hotel we were pleased with the accommodation. <Note, the hallways are NOT air conditioned so it may be very warm getting to your room.> The hallways are quite spacious as are the rooms - we had a triple room with 2 twin beds and one double bed. The A/C worked very well in the room, almost too well as I was surprised to see the beds did not have blankets, only a top sheet. This made for a very uncomfortable night of sleeping for me as I was VERY cold. (I actually did not ask for a blanket, so my bad...) Turning off the A/C made the room very humid and the street noise very prevalent. The area around the hotel during the day is teeming with people and cabs, it's the commercial center of the town. Currently the main street is under construction. We could walk to the Theatre, the main market and the boat docks...everything you could need is there. The breakfast is ample with scrambled eggs, fruit, breakfast cakes and coffee. Definitely enough to start the day off right. I didn't find any hotel personnel that spoke English, so communicating may be a challenge if you don't know basic Portuguese. There is a tourist office within the lobby, they do speak English and were helpful with some translation issues that we had. All in all, an average stay, with no complaints. Good location if you want to be near the center of the action.

“Convenient location to harbor and historic downtown sites.”

This hotel was probably built in the 1960s and still has an old-fashioned essence although it is very well maintained and has undergone some updates. It is in a busy downtown shopping area just blocks from the Teatro Amazonas and the harbor where Rio Negro/Amazon River tours begin. There is a quality tour agency located in the hotel facilities. Several blocks away are some seedier parts of town (sailors in port kind of vibe). Rooms overlooking the street are noisy but back rooms are quiet. Hotel staff we encountered did not seem to speak any English. Room was clean and breakfast was fine. As another reviewer mentioned, there was only one towel in the room but we called downstairs and asked in Portuguese for another towel, which was brought right away.

“Nice hotel but quite old ”

This was a nice hotel with friendly personel but on the other hand pretty old. It was located in a very noisy neighbourhood. On the other hand, it was clean and as we only slept there it was pretty ok.
