The Carlton is a small boutique hotel located 5 mins from the train station and metro so is ideal for those wanting to visit, Brugges, Brussels and other parts of Belgium or go the city centre/Old Town. There are a number of places to eat within a few mins walk. Rooms are large and breakfasts tasty and generous. There is also a small bar. Their rates are very competitive. HOWEVER, the best thing about the Carlton are the staff and level of service. I was sick during my recent stay and the Owner and staff showed great concern. The Owner took me to hospital and ensured that they took care of me on admittance. He followed up with me over the course of our stay. His assistance exceeded what would be offered by many hotels. Here you are a valued guest not a number. If you are looking for a small hotel with excellent customer service and lovely staff consider the Carlton for your stay in Ghent. You won't regret it.

Faultless. Hotel perfection. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the rooms are beautiful, large and spotless. Breakfast superb. “Comfortable room in a convenient location. Slow service at breakfast.”

The hotel is conveniently located right next to the train station and is within walking distance to the historic center. My room was very spacious and quiet with a comfortable bed. The hotel is conveniently located right next to the train station and is within walking distance to the historic center. My room was very spacious and quiet with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is small but had everything I needed. However, the water pressure to the shower is quite low. All of the hotel staff were friendly, personable, and helpful in providing recommendations and advice during my stay. My biggest complaint was that service during breakfast was excruciatingly slow. The hotel appeared to be understaffed in the morning. The server in the breakfast area was also in charge of the lobby and helped out in the kitchen. When I initially arrived to the breakfast area, it was busy and there were no staff anywhere to direct me. I chose a table and sat down. After 10 minutes, a hotel staff came and took my order for hot food. It took 45 minutes for the kitchen to make my omelette with a side of potatoes. I had finished eating the cold dishes from the breakfast bar area and was just sitting at my table waiting for my omelette/potatoes. I had a flight to catch that morning and ended up being late for my train because I spent so long waiting for my breakfast. When my omelette finally arrived 45 minutes after placing the order, it was slightly undercooked. Several other tables were also wondering when their order for hot food would be ready since it took so long. My experience during breakfast definitely took away from my overall satisfaction with the hotel.
