What a great find. This hotel is brilliant. Very close to so many places but in a quiet area. Only 2 minutes to the Markt. Lovely clean rooms, helpful and friendly staff. The breakfast choices offer a good range of breads, yoghurt, fruit, pattiseries etc with a choice of eggs cooked to order. Loved everything about Hotel Boterhuis and will definately return.

“Picturesque, clean, and close to everything”

Tons of character and really feels old (in a good way!). We had a giant room with a nice big bathroom. Very comfortable. Staff were nice and helpful. A good breakfast buffet is included. Seemed like a very good price (especially as compared to Amsterdam hotels, where we came from). It’s also so convenient to the Markt square with its shops and restaurants and historic sites. Beware: if you have heavy bags or don’t do well with steps; we were placed on the 2nd floor and those steps are tiny and winding!

I found this hotel almost by accident online and I have to say how glad I am that I did! Tucked away behind a small and unassuming frontage on a quiet street just a few minutes’ walk from the Markt square right in the heart of Bruges (Brugge), the Hotel Boterhuis is an absolute gem. The hotel is privately-owned, and all the better for it. On checking in, I was led to my room through winding corridors and the breakfast room to a narrow wooden spiral staircase and up to the first floor of what was described to me as the oldest part of the building, dating back to the 14th century. My room was much larger than I expected, with a generously-sized double bed, which I found to be extremely comfortable, and although the en-suite facilities were rather small, consisting of a toilet room and a separate shower room with two wash basins, they were perfectly adequate. The room had lovely views overlooking the charming alleyway which runs behind the building. The breakfasts were excellent: cereals, a variety of freshly baked warm bread rolls and croissants, bread slices for toasting, butter and jams, and various fruits were set out on the self-service table with fruit juices, teas and coffees available, and the cook was always welcoming and on-hand, ready to prepare eggs, whether fried, boiled, scrambled or poached … all were available on request. All in all, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were attentive without being too intrusive and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure their guests were well looked-after; and the rooms were cleaned thoroughly every day. The Boterhuis is a quaint and historic building with plenty of character and charm, complete with creaking wooden floors, yet modern enough to have double-glazed windows and central heating throughout. In fairness, it has to be said that some parts of the hotel may not be entirely suitable for those with mobility issues (due to its age), although the staff could not possibly be more helpful. I cannot speak highly enough about this wonderful hotel and I would not hesitate to recommend it. I look forward to staying there again next time I visit Bruges, it would certainly be my first choice!

Really good townhouse type hotel, stylish, clean, generous sized room for city centre location. It’s well located as it’s near everything but on a quiet street. Really good townhouse type hotel, stylish, clean, generous sized room for city centre location. It’s well located as it’s near everything but on a quiet street. Good breakfast, a bit congested in the dining room but the fantastic scrambled egg more than made up for it. Lovely staff who actually came in the car with us to show us the parking. Don’t go to Osteria 45, the Italian restaurant opposite as we had a bad meal there and a rude waiter/manager. There are plenty of good restaurants close by which we later realised.
