Everything you could want from a city centre hotel. Great location, central to town. Hugely helpful multi-lingual staff, ready to advise not only on the key tourist 'must sees' but also on the more hidden or off the beaten track attractions of Bruges. Tremendous breakfasts. Clean and modern rooms with comfortable and efficient bathroom facilities. Can't comment re car access as we arrived by train : the station is an easy and flat 15 minute walk away.

“Luxury with a twist”

This hotel is very luxurious with plenty spent on refurbishment apparently recently. But there are two serious issues with the place. 1. The room lights need a real rethink as they seem to have a mind of their own . They are not simple to work and there is some strange interlinking when you turn on… more

This hotel is very luxurious with plenty spent on refurbishment apparently recently. But there are two serious issues with the place. 1. The room lights need a real rethink as they seem to have a mind of their own . They are not simple to work and there is some strange interlinking when you turn one set on you find another set turn off-I explained the problem to staff who thought there wasn’t a problem 2. The A/C did not work. Room remained steadfastly at 23/22 C despite setting the temp to 19! Again told reception who promised to look at at but no joy. These two issues marred a great stay.

“Nice hotel - but avoid the Executive rooms!”

We stayed at Duke's Academie for three nights in mid October, in one of the Executive rooms. Location is good and within easy walking distance of most of the historic old town attractions, and the short taxi ride from the Bruges station cost 11 euros plus tip. Staff were all polite, courteous and efficient, and the (included) full English breakfast was good quality, with a wide variety of ingredients. There's only only downside - but it's a BIG one! All of the Executive rooms overlook a small but surprisingly busy side road ... and as early as 4am the local bakery starts banging up their shutters and scraping out chairs and tables, with delivery vans slamming their doors and the drivers shouting out to each other, etc. From mid-morning through till about 10.30pm there's constant foot traffic and horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping past, and in the evenings there were always a few revellers drinking and laughing etc as they sat at the tables just a few metres from our windows ... so as comfortable as the room was, we were never completely able to relax. TIP: when you book, insist on one of the rooms overlooking the interior courtyard, which should be much quieter!
