Absolutely wonderful Christmas week in the Austrian Alps, Hotel Lohman did not disappoint, first thing to mention (and this may make a difference to some) from the outside the Lohman is not your picture book Alpine hotel, it's more like a city centre hotel not sure where Crystal take the pictures for their brochures but I'm pretty sure not many of the guests have ever seen the view of the hotel however that doesn't bother us in the slightest, the two guys in reception were brilliant nothing too much trouble everything explained really well and we were made to feel extremely welcome straight away, our room on the 4 floor was very just what we expected a good size with a seated area and table a fridge and we had requested it coffee and tea was available (we didn't see the need for ourselves) fantastic shower and bathroom, not much of a view from the room as we were on a lower floor looking out on where some residents had parked their vehicles you could see some of the mountains but again we weren't too bothered by this, I would advise anbody booking this hotel who requires ski hire to add this this to your booking it's done through the attached Lohman sports shop which you can access within the hotel, the team there are the best we have ever used, along with the best advice and equipment these guys are really good. Now to the restaurant, we had read all the previous reviews and generally they seemed to be mostly good an odd one here and there complained about different things, I can honestly say it was a really wonderful experience, it's a buffet breakfast with fruit, cereals, cheese and cold meats and a hot option everyday, a nice touch was having Luca too cook your omelette or pancakes to order as an extra option, cake and coffee were available in the afternoon, the evening meals were again buffet with various soups, salad, and cold option, separate things for young children, and the main hot meal was usually a roast pork, beef or seafood choice, not sure about vegetarian or other options available as this does not affect us, we found the choices to be varied and tasty, it's also very wine and beer at evening meals and we didn't notice anybody abusing this at all, the Christmas Eve gala meal was also a really nice touch with prosecco and canapés and the tables all decorated even a visit from Santa. One last thing to mention about the restaurant is Frank and his team they are brilliant and couldn't of made us feel more welcome, they even made us a packed lunch for the coach journey when we left, as we were a 6.00am pick up. All in all we had a fantastic week at the Lohman and couldn't fault anything, may well be back next year.

Thanks to all the staff, especially Frank and Claire, who were particularly helpful on our arrival. Much of the hotel is a little dated, but…… the kids don’t notice or care, and if they are having a great time so are we. And we really did! Range of food was good for buffet style, the rooms were spotlessly clean and very spacious. Please thank the cleaning staff. We appreciated the organised and seamless boot fitting on the first day in the shop attached to the hotel. It meant that we got to ski school on time without fuss. We would stay again with the kids. There is a slide inside the hotel which provided huge fun. In school holidays I would be mindful that a huge number of small children will be running around - fine for us, but just FYI.

“EXCELLENT”

Absolutely excellent. Staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, the choice was expansive, definitely something for everyone. “Disappointing and not what we thought it would be - not worth the money”

Disappointed in the hotel experience. And wouldn’t return here. Rooms - we had a junior suite which was spacious, comfy beds, reasonable storage, tv, fridge, water glasses, seating area and sofa/sofa bed. Bathroom was decent size, warm towel rail, soap and body wash and body lotion provided in dispensers attached to the wall. We had to make a special request for a kettle. Boot room - spacious and plenty of space on the heated racks, good shelves for helmets and a wall to store kit. To get to street level there are steps up. The hotel is built into the hill so lots of steps and a single small elevator. Not great if you have a buggy. Spa area is very small and no swimwear allowed. There are towels provided so you can cover up and bath robes in the room. The steam room and sauna are so small I wouldn’t want to be in them with anyone other than family when naked with a towel. The jacuzzi is two whirlpool baths - didn’t try them out as I didn’t fancy getting naked to sit in a bath in full view of others! Not the relaxing spa experience I hoped for. Attached to the hire shop which is good and excellent service from the shop. Dining room is dated and packed out, not a relaxing dining experience. Breakfast - melon and fruit and yoghurt all decent. Museli/granola and various cereals. Dairy free milk available if you ask. Huge choice of tea and a coffee machine plus a juice machine. Cooked food was left sat out so not always in good condition - could be quite dry. Omelettes made to order are decent, pancake are runny and thin so not the treat hoped for. Dinner was a huge disappointment- salad bar is very small and basic. Main courses were also basic and not with much flavour - lots of pasta but the bolognese sauce was like soup with no meat. Wine and soft drinks plentiful. Dessert was disappointing although ice cream was nice. Bar area is tiny and insufficient for the hotel. They really need to allow the restaurant to be used for the coffee and cake. Coffee and cake is literally coffee only with everything else extra including tea and hot chocolate. Nowhere to sit unless you are there at 4pm. Cake is replenished and decent. So in summary - hotel is reasonable, rooms are good, food is low quality, drinks at dinner and breakfast are good but the afternoon is disappointing. Whole family were a bit flat as it wasn’t what we expected.
