This is a delightful family-run hotel, with friendly, enthusiastic, professional staff and a real personal touch. It has very spacious and comfortable bedrooms and public spaces, and two swimming pools (a reasonably large, conventional indoor one, and an unusual semi-covered outdoor one filled with saltwater). The spa facilities looked impressive, although we didn’t use them. The hotel doesn’t have a garden, although there is a large outdoor patio area. Our bedroom was a long room in the eaves, facing east/southeast. This meant morning sun, and a view of the mountains across the valley, with the main road running along the valley below. Because the weather was warm/hot for our whole week, we kept the door to our balcony open all night, but were barely troubled by traffic noise (only once, early morning, when we think a huge lorry was delivering to a supermarket). The hotel is situated far enough back from the main road for noise to be a non-issue for most guests. Our bathroom was well equipped, but the only window was (necessarily) in the roof, and therefore sealed. This meant the room became uncomfortably hot. We discussed the heat issue with the receptionist on our final morning, wondering whether another year (because we most definitely will return) we should ask for a different type of room. She explained that the hotel is embarking on a major refurbishment of all the rooms this autumn, and that this includes a cooling system in the roof. So next summer these eaves room should be cooler. The food is outstanding. We enjoyed an extensive spread at breakfast, which really set us up for all-day hiking. We managed to return to the hotel shortly before 1700 each day in order to enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and cake. This was part of a (to us) astonishing array of salads, cold cuts, soup, cakes and even ice cream, alongside tea and (proper!) coffee making facilities, available to guests who had booked three-quarters board, from 1500 to 1700. Dinner included a large, varied salad buffet, a starter brought to the table, soup, a choice of main courses, and a dessert. (I think people may have returned to the buffet for cheese, but we know when to stop!) The food was imaginative and delicious, and the portion sizes were just right (ie not too big). On my husband’s birthday, totally unexpectedly, our waiter appeared with a Sachertorte and a blazing candle/sparkler and led a chorus of Happy Birthday…. It was all very kind! The wine list was not extensive, but the prices were fair, and we worked out that the best quality wine (for our tastes) was just above the E40 mark. Dinner was served from 1830 to 2030, and the early start suited us. Indeed our only reservation about the hotel was the discovery that guests from a sister hotel could come en masse to the Bergkönig for dinner. On our second evening, when we had came down at about 1930, we reached the salad buffet just as a group of about 30 people swarmed into the room and simply denuded it. The salads were replenished, and the group disappeared into a separate part of the restaurant for the remainder of the dinner. But this was not an experience we wanted to repeat. So we simply came down much earlier thereafter. When we booked the hotel, we also booked the hotel’s own transport from (and back to) Innsbruck airport (it is a short, relatively painless transfer). The price was fair and the arrangements worked seamlessly. We have spent innumerable summer holidays in the Alps over the last forty years, in Austria, Switzerland, northern Italy, France and Slovenia. As we have grown older, our standards have become more demanding, so it was a joy to discover such a lovely hotel in an area with such exceptional hiking opportunities.

“Wonderful Winter break with friends”

This was our fourth visit here and the hotel ever disappoints. A 30 minute transfer from Innsbruck Airport makes it the perfect location for a short winter break (we stayed 5 nights). The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming, the food excellent and the spa divine

“Delightful!”

Beautiful quaint accommodation in the Austrian Alps. Wonderful hosts, clean and comfortable accommodation. Large two bedroom loft suite suitable for 2 adults and 2 teenage children. Lovely area to do as much or as little as you like. Delicious food and wonderful service.

“Crucial points missing”

In my opinion, two crucial points related to the quality of sleeping need attention: a) a four star hotel cannot offer a curved mattress and a terrible pillows; b) Housekeeping ladies can't talk so loud and make so much noise around 08:00am in a hotel where guests come to relax. In my opinion, two crucial points related to the quality of sleeping need attention: a) a four star hotel cannot offer a curved mattress and a terrible pillows; b) Housekeeping ladies can't talk so loud and make so much noise around 08:00am in a hotel where guests come to relax. What saves the hotel is the restaurant, they have a diversified menu and well prepared meals. The breakfast is rich of options and the dinner, from 0 to 10, is 8. The spa area is good and the outside pool is very nice and warm. I stayed in the room 219 for three nights.
