We had looked at this hotel but decided on cost to stay our one night at the very close Pension Klingler. Unfortunately a mix up with our booking meant we were double booked but the owner apologised and advised that she had organised a room at the Mauracherhof at the same price. A little perplexed by the change in our plans we drove the 400m to the second hotel where we received a very warm welcome and given a lovely room with a view of the lake and a small balcony outside. The room was extremely comfortable and we would have made more use of the facilities had we been staying longer. even so the bed was large and comfy and the rest of the room gave a good feeling of space. The bathroom was recently refurbished and included everything you could need. Shower was powerful and temperature control easy and what the towels lacked in size they gained in fluffyness. The breakfast included was also a very generous and covered every traditional breakfast food type with hot and cold available. In fact, this got my wife's vote for best breakfast of the holiday! Area where we ate was large and light although we were assigned a table. One point to note is the rather small and antiquated lift that services the floors. It does rather rattle down the shaft and for those of a nervous disposition I imagine it would get the brain thinking of those movies where the lift plummets but I do assure you that it is quite safe just a little like a white knuckle ride when you think it is bouncing off the sides. We were very please with this hotel even though it wasn't our first choice because it certainly seemed like they did everything they could to ensure their guests enjoyed their stay. There is a back route to the lake which is safer than walking on the road and a lot shorter/flater and there is a back garden seating area and a games room.

Visited as a part of a large group. Parking for coach. Family owned and working in hotel. Very clean. Lovely dining room, excellent breakfast buffet including fresh omelettes, bacon and egg etc. (prob. chef's special for Brits!) Dinner choice good; carvery buffet on arrival, Italian buffet and fondue - not the best, during week. Some rooms with bath and shower, ours was spacious with shower, balcony, settee, comfy bed and view over lake. Music night and use of games room - table tennis, pool table. Lantern walk with mulled wine and dancing. Horse-drawn sleigh rides reasonably priced and by request. Excellent staff, could have done with additional help in bar during evening. End of January village very quiet but good snowfall. Handy for Pertisau. Good bus service.

Let's start with the fact that the Achensee a very touristic region is and therefore quite expensive to stay. With that said I still think the price quality ratio of this hotel could be improved. The rooms are large but very old and old fashioned. The bed is okay, the shower is small and the shower gel suspensor is sticking to the shower with duct tape. The toilet is not on the badroom, with is a pro. The balcony was depressing and had a view on a (wood?) factory next door. No noice or smell complain of it by the way! The service was friendly and there is an elevator that is way younger than the rest of the hotel. The breakfast is good and you have quite a nice view on the mountains. There is free private parking. There was a sauna in the hotel but we didn't use it. The wifi was bad.

“don't expect too much”

We had booked this hotel for 14 people aged between 30 and 40 and 4 young kids over 4 nights. The average guest age was much higher but that can be a coincidence. We had booked this hotel for 14 people aged between 30 and 40 and 4 young kids over 4 nights. The average guest age was much higher but that can be a coincidence. The day we arrived, the only elevator was out of service and we could only get rooms in 3rd and 4th floor under the roof. Repaired on Monday, a mother with her daughter got stuck in that old elevator for 20 minutes and nobody heard the alarm bell ringing for quite a long time. After one ride I decided to take the stairway to 4th floor for the rest of our holidays. Rooms look nice on first view but only North side rooms have a really good view from the balcony. There's no air conditioning or way to get some wind through the rooms except you leave your room door and balcony door open. If you like 28°C overnight, you won't get in trouble. Parts of the restaurant have heated up in the sun the same way with no chance of being cooled down efficiently. To be fair, we have probably caught some extremely hot weather which is not typical in the Achensee area. Cleaning staff was very friendly. Waiter Achmed is a nice guy with a good memory of drinks and room numbers. One of the cooks however can ‘t handle stress at all. He was in fact unfriendly to several people in far more than one situation. That’s really worth a complaint. Better don't talk to him and do not ask him for a favor. The buffets are not more than average and if you are a vegetarian you will be very disappointed because the choice of salads is poor. The hotel is basically prepared for kids but not especially equipped. There are no special safety features, no kids play rooms and only a very small garden with 2 swings and 2 slides. All in all I’m not surprised that the hotel lost 1 star recently. We had much better experience in another hotel at the Achensee 1 year ago and no one of our group will go to Mauracherhof Seehotel again.
