“Not 3 star more guest house with food”

Stayed here on a group booking and after reading the reviews had high hopes of a descent stay. Arrived after very long journey. Reception from owners when checking in was off hand and abrupt. Several people on our trip had issues with their room for example, not what they had booked, or in a bad location for noise. We witnessed that one lady had booked 2 separate rooms with her friend as they wanted separate bathrooms and paid the solo surcharge and then were put in rooms with shared bathroom, owners response 'if you don't like it go somewhere else' in front of other many other guests how, humiliating for her. Another issue was that the hotel had changed to a set menu so absolutely no choice if you could not eat what they presented you with you had to pay £15 for changing the dish. Apparently the tour operator was not notified, in my opinion this would of been the right thing to do communicate. There are no tea making facilities in the room, you can only get refreshments at breakfast or after 6.30 when dinner is served, once this is done you have nowhere to drink and are encouraged to leave the restaurant. Our room was roughly cleaned but the bathroom and bedroom floor were never cleaned . Reception is not manned so you have to ring a mobile number if you need anything. Even with the window and door open to balcony our bedroom was like a sauna , there is building going on at the end of the field to the rear and this started banging at 7.20 a.m not ideal. There is no information board with details of events in village just some generic leaflets, one evening by chance we found out there was a festival going on in the village, it would be great if we been told this. Now this village has a conference centre which can take over 1000 people so if you arrive when one is going on, like we did it can get quite rowdy. 400 Swiss delegates had arrived and boy were they celebrating. So be aware it is not always a quite place. All in all this is not as a uk 3 star hotel would be more of a guest house with evening meal and we were very disappointed.

Rooms aren't huge but perfectly functional with adequate storage, proper hangers, safe, comfortable bed, hair drier, and plenty of power points. Bathroom compact and bijou, but shower excellent and permanent hot water supply. However, no fridge or kettle provided. Food outstanding, with decent selection at breakfast and top class evening meals. We had 3 course meals, set menu, for 7 nights (part of a group), and there are no complaints. The bar, as such, is part of the restaurant, so don't expect a late night drink. Staff are attentive and helpful (the owners pretty much ever-present). The Village has a few watering holes, though at this time of year, quiet.
